Chariot vs Stroller

Right now we are considering whether to buy a stroller or a chariot (jogging, biking, etc stroller). Right now we are leaning towards a Chariot for the following reasons:

- wont use a stroller until spring, at that time bike riding will be something we will want to do with baby

- same price as the stroller we are looking at - but Chariot offers more options

- Chariot seems more versatile than a regular stroller and for the money, we want to get the best bang for our buck!

- GFs with babies say the Chariot is the way to go, barely used a regular stroller...

Any thoughts or experience with this would be much appreciated. As far as taking the baby to the mall, shopping or anywhere you would not use a Chariot we are thinking of using a baby carrier, wrap or car seat in the shopping cart.

Thoughts are welcome!!

Re: Chariot vs Stroller

  • A baby carrier or wrap will work nicely for outings for a while, but my almost 2 year old still rides in the stroller when we go to the mall or zoo. I suppose you could rent strollers on those occasions, but it's something to think about. I think most moms have more than 1 stroller/chariot type baby carrier.

  • I wasn't sure what a chariot was, so I looked up it...DH and I are definitely not bikers (haha). I would look into weight recs for the chariot. It looks like it would not accomodate an infant well (infants cannot be in anything that isn't fully reclined until they are about 6 months and they can sit up). For the first 6 weeks, you probably aren't going to want to ride a bike (it would hurt from healing) and you won't be allowed to ride a bike (probably). It looks too big for everyday use (shopping or just going out and about) because navigating aisles can be challenging.

I would get both, to be honest (if you are a bike rider), but I would definitely say you will need a stroller.

  • Thanks for the feedback ladies appreciate it.. Just some perspective though.. We live in Canada where it will be a deep freeze until May - no walking until then. For Chariots there is an infant sling option that you can walk with them with - would not be biking witha 6 month old in a chariot!

We wouldnt be using the chariot or a stroller for that matter until May, maybe April... I agree a stroller later on would be necesary - something less expensive than the ones we are looking at right now. Agreed, a 2 year old needs something...

    Thanks for the feedback!!

  • I'd get a good umbrella stroller for now that reclines for a NB and wait on anything else. Keep an eye out for a second hand chariot for later.

  • I'm in Alaska and baby will be born in our own February deep freeze.  I have a Chariot that I found for cheap, it came with a "baby bivvy", a little foam box you can pack baby into with blankets, etc, keeps baby warm and from jostling around.  I think I'll just be walking with baby strapped to me in a carrier for awhile though, stroller/chariot will come later in the summer.  I bike all of the time, and want to walk a lot too.  But I think I'll just be using the Chariot for walking until the kid is old enough for a helmet (1 year?)

  • I have both but honestly I only use the biking chariot while biking. Unfortunately I might even have to replace it now because my parents decided it would make a good rain/snow catch bucket and it is COVERED n pigeon and barn owl crap. X(
