Has anyone started potty training yet? When will you start? I'm not sure if DS is ready for it yet, but would like to start preparing. Any recommendation for potty seat/chair? Or are they all just cut and dry...

Potty training is so far off my radar!! DS hasn't shown any signs and we don't expect to see any for awhile. I'm guessing he'll be over 2 years old before we start but there's no way to tell. I guess we will just wait and see when we think he's ready.

She's been grabbing her diaper and saying "poo poo" right before she goes, and waking up dry, so I know she's at least aware of it. But I'm going to take daycare's lead on this one since she spends such a larage portion of her day there.
We started with a very relaxed version of elimination communication when DS was 7 months. He still wears diapers, but if I can tell he's going to poop, I put him on the potty and he goes there. We catch some pees. Mostly, if he points to his potty and I ask him if he wants to pee, he'll either shake his head no or say "yes."
I would recommend reading one of the EC books (I think the one I read was "The Diaper Free Baby")...there's a section on starting with an older "baby." I could see this being helpful for D to connect that "this is where we go pee and poop," before actually potty training.
As far as potty chairs, we have the baby bjorn one with the back. I like it a lot. At this point, he'd probably be fine without the back, but when he was 7 months, he needed it. I think the advantages of not having the back are if you take the potty in the car, the other one is more compact. The other potty seat we have is this one:
(sorry no clicky). I love it for when he's going to poop because there's NO clean up! Yay! You have to be RIGHT by him though. I turned for a sec once and he fell off :-( This isn't an issue with the Bjorn potty seat. He can get up from it on his own, no problem.
Hope that's helpful. It's good to "see" you around here again!

This. I'm in no hurry. Starting later with DS was fine for us b/c he was able to communicate clearly and had a better grasp of the whole concept. All that said, it was NOT my favorite stage so I'm hoping DD will take to it quicker when it's her turn.

Potty training was also so far off my radar until last week. When he is with MIL, she also has DH's nephew who is 3 and now a "potty" expert. He always asks if Miles wants to use the potty. Miles has started to sit on his little potty (clothed) and say "pee." He doesn't wake up dry, but is very interested and curious whenever DH or I go. I think we will at least buy a potty to try to use first thing in the morning and when we are at home. I am not going to push it, but if he wants to use it, I guess we will follow his lead. I know that having a baby sister will throw a wrench in the pot, but I will also be home for 12 weeks, so that might be a good time to judge if he is really ready. I certainly need to buy a few books on the topic.
According to my mom, I was completely potty trained by eighteen months and started taking my dipaer off anytime it was wet when I was fifteen months. So, although I feel like it is wayyyy early to start potty training, I guess it isn't. FWIW, my sister wasn't potty trained until closer to 2 1/2 and she was born when I was 15 months old.

Unless he shows interest, I won't start until he's two. I got the potty seat for DD at 15M just so she could see it, but she wasn't fully potty trained until she was a little over 2 1/2. (Nights and all) It's a process and I'm in no rush.
We're starting now, and H and I have a vacation after Christmas, so if he's still in diapers by then we will go all out for that week. H and my brother were both potty trained at 18 months, so he's hoping!! MIL and my mom had lots of motivation to do it though, since they both had 2u2!
I don't think we're there yet and if I have anything to say about it, it will be after baby #2 is here in March. I've also heard summer potty training is much easier, so I'm thinking around 2 we'll start, unless he starts showing signs before then.
DD knows the sign for potty (we used it for "you went potty, let's change your diaper" then for "did you go potty, do you need a diaper" and a few times has signed potty. When she signs we put her on it no matter what so that she knows that the two go together. She has successfully signed to us when she has to pee quite a few times, and has been dry a few of those times too. And usually signs for poo after the fact but we have caught one.
Since she has shown interest we went and got a seat you put on the regular toilet for her. I don't like the germs that come with potty chairs and working in child care I have seen so many children that refuse to potty in public because there is no potty chair. For some people it becomes a potty training x2 since they train in the potty chair and then have to re-train on the regular toilet. The seat ring seems to eliminate that.
Liv signs and says "poop" just seconds before she goes. We have been taking her to the potty whenever she gives us the sign beforehand and we're close to the bathroom. Last time we did, DH took her diaper off right that moment and this ended up with a small drop of poop on our bamboo floor..
We just got the seat that is placed right on top of the regular toilet. We hold/support her in place while she goes. Yep. That's unconditional love right there. Oh and DH makes this light grunting noise "to help her go." And she does! So now anytime we get her near the seat, she starts to make the noise. Hilarious.
Sometimes, she just farts and she thinks it's poop so she signs and tells us. hahaha oh the joys of being a parent!

I was planning on starting in the Spring, but I think I will wait until the summer is ending now that the baby is coming. It will be hard on our routine to add a baby in the winter, so I want things to calm down and all the vacations/adjusting to be completed before we start. So, LO will be 2y3m-ish. Plus, I've heard it's easier/faster the later you start. Not sure though.
At DD's 15 month wellness visit, the pediatrician recommended getting a potty chair for her to sit on whenever I'm using the toilet myself so that she's accustomed to the idea. The reason being is that back in FL where it was super hot, we would let her run around the house in a diaper and t-shirt when it was just at home by ourselves and she would take her diaper off and hand it to us when she peed in it. So, she's at least aware when she goes now. She doesn't wake up with a dry diaper, though, so I think she has a ways to go before she's fully ready.

Our pediatrician brought this up at our 15-month appointment, and I too had thought it was waaaay early, but I guess not. He says it's quite common for kids in day care especially to be completely potty trained before they turn 2. I'm game. So I'll probably be buying a potty for her soon. She does have some control over when she goes, because she will hold off on pooping in the morning until she gets a fresh diaper (doesn't want to go on the wet overnight diaper), so that's an encouraging sign... we'll see!

Ah! Never!
LO got pants and diaper off the other day and left me a treat.
We are not even close to thinking about ready.
Good luck to you and take lots of notes for me!
