Affordable nursery furniture brands/stores?

I have a 17 month old and we purchased an expensive set for her - crib, dresser, tall dresser totaling about $3K. Granted she will use the furniture for some time - can easily get a white twin bed when ready for that and crib turns into toddler bed.

With the second I don't want to spend nearly as much as if we have a 3rd, 2 will have to share a room which will require a reconfiguration of the room, furniture, space etc.

I thought I would find "cheaper" costing furniture at Babies R US and was surprised the set I like totaled $2,300! I really want my budget under $1700 - any suggestions where to look? Can't just be cheap though must be quality too.

Re: Affordable nursery furniture brands/stores?

  • Our nursery furniture is under 500! Well, not counting our expensive glider or mattress. But, we are getting the Jenny Lind crib, which is 160, and I found an antique dresser for 240 and I refinished it for less than 50. This will double as a changing table. I actually prefer older furniture, so much baby furniture these days is so poorly made, regardless of how much it costs. And the look of it doesn't even appeal to me.

You can find a dresser for even cheaper than that, I'm sure. Check Craigslist and the like. There is tons of inspiration out there, on Pinterest, cheap chic nursery, etc... Good luck!

  • I'd check out and see if you have an Ikea near you, the furniture there is good quality and the prices are good too!

  • I would suggest Ikea as well for cribs and dressers. We don't have one near us, but I wish we did! Many like the Gulliver crib and the Hemnes dressers from Ikea. The Graco cribs are inexpensive, but rated very highly as well. As one other PP suggested, you could also buy a dresser off Craigslist or an antique from someone, and re-finish it yourself. There are many ways to do a nursery with inexpensive, yet good quality furniture!

  • Does everything need to match.  I would buy a safe well built crib and find some nice discounted pieces that complaiment the room.  You could save alot of money that way, try craiglist, big furniture stores or second hand stores, you would be surprised on how much you can save and still have a nice looking room.

  • Not sure this will be helpful since you've already been to BRU but we just ordered our nursery set (crib, dresser/changer combo, and tall 4 drawer dresser, mattress and changing pad) from BRU and it was around $1300. I think the set we picked is good quality and it has good reviews online. We also had a 10% off coupon.
  • Ikea. Our nursery decorations costed more than our furniture and it is still good quality for the price.

  • We got Delta furniture at Target. It's really nice to look at and is solid wood.

This. And it's cute and contemporary. I was really happy to find a Euro style crib so cheap!

  • I am looking at a Bassett crib and dressers at Buy Buy Baby, however the dresser draws are very small and I'm not sure this will be practical as the baby gets older.  It seems to be made well. Bassett doesn't sell their baby furniture in their own stores, but sells in BBB and Target. The Target lines might be cheaper.

I am also on the look out for a nice dresser from Craigs list or cosignment shops and have found a person locally (through a google search) who will refinish/paint it. This might be a good option for you.  He also told me that much of the baby furniture, including Bellini is not made well.

If you are a member of BJ's,they have baby furniture on their website, which i think you can still order for a small fee if you are not a member.  From what I remember w/#1, it was much cheaper than Babies R Us.
