Re: Brag Day Wednesday

  • My guy has been getting speech since age 2.  That delay was what originally prompted me to call EI despite everyone telling me he was "fine".

2 years of speech have passed.  At the end of the last school year, the SLP told me that he tested well within range for his age, so they rec'd we drop speech, he no longer needed it.

I was skeptical, so I took him for an independent evaluation.  We had the eval last week and she AGREED  100% and that despite a few age appropriate articulation glitches, there was realy nothing for her to work on with him.!  Of course we'll keep an eye on things and evaluate again in a year, but OMG you guys, we are thrilled with his progress.

  • finsup, that's awesome!

I've been checking in with DD1's teachers and their reports have been stellar. Last week, one of them told me that she's "starting to integrate" with the girls in her class. Today, the other teacher told me that she has friends, the other kids know who she is, and apparently they talk about her enough at home (hopefully in a good way) that other parents want to know who Sophie is.

This squares with what DD1 has been telling me in talking about the girls she has been playing with. I've also seen her little Tues-Thurs (only goes those days) friend greet her and immediately they go off holding hands.

I'm really encouraged by all the little cues that she's making some meaningful social progress/connections.

  • DS has now qualified for OT on top of his speech therapy. This week he said "play game" unprompted to DH. We were both really proud of him.

He's finding his college experience much more intersting than high school.

I think that holds true for so many people.  I didn't "fit in" in high school but when I went to college, the 1st thing I noticed was that you didn't really have to "fit in" because the clique culture of hs was gone and everyone was pretty much their own person.  Yes there were some cliques but it was more along the lines of shared interests - sports, drama, dance, etc.

    So glad he's enjoying college!

  • Aidan scored an 85 on the PLS(language screen) for receptive language today.  85-115 is considered average for his age and he is finally in that category!  At the bottom, but still age appropriate after 4 years of speech!  We find out expressive next week :)
