Haircuts

I have long hair down to about the middle of my back. Between it falling out everywhere and my DS grabbing it, I'm debating cutting it. My H likes it long and normally I do too so I'm not sure yet.

Anyone chop their hair off after having LO? Or is anyone planning to now?

Re: Haircuts

  • That's why it's called "mom hair" ;)

I have long hair and cut it into a short bob after having DS1. I regretted it. I look fine with shorter hair, but far prefer my long hair. But mainly, once it was short, I could no longer wear it back/pulled into a pony tail, which meant DS could grab it even more!! I didn't cut it after DD or DS2, and just wear it up or braided when I start shedding and/or LO starts grabbing hair. :)

  • I've been debating about the cut since DS started grabbing and me losing hair everywhere! Oh and not to mention sometimes spit or his saliva all over my hair too. But I actually wouldn't cut it that short mom Bob cut so it would still be in the way. I think I've just decided to get a trim before going back to work.
  • I have been thinking about this too. It took a long time to grow my hair to the middle of my back so I am hesitant to chop it. Right now I wear it up in a bun or in a braid most of the time, so when DS pulls it he pulls the whole braid and not just a few strands. Right now my plan is to leave it as is throughout the winter, and cut to about my shoulders in the spring. I am a former dancer so cannot imagine having hair too short for a ponytail or bun, haha!

  • I think I'm going to just have a few inches cut off before going back to work.  I want to keep it long enough to still put in a ponytail but my hair is also pretty long so a few inches probably won't make too much of a difference.

  • I told DH I was going to cut it really short. He said, "Oh so now that you're a mom you're just giving up?" Thanks DH, so sweet.. So I cut it shoulder length and wear it in a bun at home, down at work.

Ha! Sounds like something my H would say. :P

I'm not thinking of going full on mom bob. Lol! Maybe shoulder length..

  • 3 years ago, I had a really cute pixie cut. Now, it's halfway down my back. I'm lazy about getting haircuts.

Anyway, I'm so ready to go short again. My hair is frizzy and wavy, but not really curly. I use to always straighten it. At this length though, blow dry and straighten takes 30+ minutes. I started trying to wear it wavy at the end of my pregnancy, since I didn't think I'd have time to straighten it after I had a baby. Turns out I don't even have time to babysit it while it air dries so the waves look like anything other than a hot mess.

I'm totally thinking of going shoulder length or shorter, so I can go back to a quick blow dry straight. But now I have to find a salon to go to, and make an appointment, and figure out what to do with the baby, and I've already had to stop several times just while typing this because he's screaming no matter where he is or what I do with him, so yeah, it'll probably stay long for a while still.

  • I did it  before I had her. but I regret it. I know long hair isn't the best with babies, but I would love to have long hair. I can't even put it up. If you're going to cut it, I'd say do so...but something that's still mid-length. Around or past your shoulders would be ideal. Ask your h too, since it sounds like he may be disappointed if its too short for his taste.

  • I have really long hair as well. My hair is to my waist. I actually had an appt 2 weeks ago to cut it but didnt make it...now, I'm reconsidering. I think I'll just get a trim.
  • I had hair to the middle of my back, too. Between DS pulling it and not having the time to at least blow dry it to wear it down, I got it cut to collar bone length. I can still put it up, but it also takes much less time to do it, so I can straighten it every couple of days.

DH prefers my hair long, too, but it's not that short. I mean it is from where it was, but it's not like it's a bob or anything. He doesn't mind it now that he's used to it. Especially since I hadn't worn it down in so long anyway. At least he sees my hair down now, and not in a wet, messy knot on the top of my head!

  • I feel so yucky about my body that my hair is the one thing I still have that I can make look nice and, dare I say it, sexy if I put a little effort in. Most days it's just in a ponytail because of dd and having no time to do it, but just knowing its still there makes me feel like I have the capacity to be somewhat attractive. If I chopped it I would feel 100 percent frumpy, so it's staying!
  • I have an appt to get mine lopped off today. LO loves to grab chunks of it and yank, and I am ready for something new anyway. DH says he doesn't care, it grows back. Big Smile

  • I cut my hair short. I usually let it grow then do a drastic cut once it gets too annoying to take care of. My hair was to the middle of my back and between DD grabbing it, it looking damaged,  and wasting time combing it I got a short haircut and I couldn't be happier with it! I also was able to dye my hair myself because it was a lot easier to do with short hair

  • I want to get my haircut so bad too! My hair is to the middle of my back and I've always had it long. I feel like its one of my best features, but its such a hassle with a baby pulling it all day. Or if its in a ponytail I feel so ugly. When I finally get the chance to get out of the house, put real clothes on and do my hair and makeup , my hair usually last 20 minutes down before I have to put it back in a ponytail to feed or something. Help!
