playdate question

Hi.  I've never posted here before, but I'm looking for some advice and thought you ladies might be able to help me out.  I have a 3 year old son who goes to daycare.  He has a "best friend" at daycare whose mom I have met numerous times and who seems like a very nice person.

She has asked whether my son can come over and play with her daughter or whether they could go to a movie together or something.  Am I to assume that I am being invited as well?  I realize this sounds like a ridiculous question, but I don't want to be presumptuous either way.  At what age does it become the norm to just drop a kid off for a playdate versus hanging out with the other mom while your kids play?  TIA

Re: playdate question

  • I would assume that it means you and her are there supervising the kiddos. Unless she says that you guys can switch off watching the kids play while you do something else or she does something else, I would assume she means you too. I would think the age to drop a kid off to play is much older, like school age.

  • I would think about how she worded the invitation. Was it a "him" or "you guys" type thing?

  • For a child that young I would assume that you should go with your son. Have fun!
  • I would assume you should go as well.  I just invited my son's daycare friend (and his mom) over for the first time and was very careful when wording the e-mail because I didn't want the other mom to think she was just supposed to drop off her son.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!
