Hey guys....I need your advice! I just got back from my first monitoring appt since starting STIMS on Saturday. I have been feeling a bit nauseous and quite uncomfortable for the last day or so. On my US today I'm showing 17 follies on the right and 28 on the left. Lining is at 9....at baseline it was 2.5. My RE is adding Ganirelex to my routine tomorrow evening and keeping all other meds the same (150 of both follistem and Menopur). She is concerned that I may develop OHSS, and will have to freeze the embryos before the transfer stage. Of course if this s the best thing for me and the embryos I'm okay with it, however I would much rather do a fresh transfer. My question is what can I do, if anything to prevent OHSS from setting in?
Re: Need advice/OHSS
How big were the biggest follicles measuring? And do you know your estrogen level? I ask because my estrogen level was 4000 and I read that sometimes you get cancelled if it's that high but my nurse said that it probably wouldn't happen in my case. (She explained it better but I was barely conscious, sorry.)
I would call and tell them your concerns and ask for input. Also I think it's probably too early to do anything to ward off OHSS if you've only been stimming for four days as I thought it usually started after trigger. Anyway I've been drinking tons of Gatorade. Good luck.

I ended up getting OHSS after my retrieval and I was devastated that my fresh transfer was cancelled. However, I spoke to many drs at my clinic and they all said the same thing...there is nothing that could've been done, BUT the good news is, if you have quality embryos and were only cancelled due to OHSS, an FET actually has higher success rates than a fresh transfer. Reason being that the OHSS gets a whole lot worse if the embryo implants. In addition, your body is rid of all those stimming hormones, and your ovaries and uterus return to its natural state, so its more similar to a spontaneous cycle verses a medicated cycle.
It stinks, but it really isn't that bad. By the time your cancelled, you will already get your period a week later, so your really only delaying the process 3 weeks, 4 tops. I was cancelled on Sept 6 and have my FET tomorrow.
Best if luck avoiding OHSS, but if you do get it, just remember to drink plenty of fluids and get lots of bed rest, and it usually goes away in a week or so. GL!
