rectal thermometers

when did you stop using one, and what do you use now instead?

    I never used a rectal thermometer.  I do use an ear-type digital one.

    We use a temporal one (you sweep it across the forehead to the temple.) You can even sneak in and use this on a sleeping child who is sick....

    Maybe when DD was around 1 and I could not hold her down by myself without straddling her :)! I use a ditgal thermometer under her armpit(adding a degree). And now that she is 5 I can use the ditgal in her mouth.

    With DD1, we kept using the rectal until she got tubes and the ear infections stopped - about 14 months. With DD2, we stopped at about 12 months when our rectal thermometer died. Now we use an ear thermometer.

    I honestly don't use a thermometer, but if I did I wouldn't use a rectal one at this age that just seems wrong to me.  (I watch symptoms).
