DS always says that he had fun, but trying to get any details from him is like pulling teeth! Thank goodness the teachers give an update to parents at pickup. I think this is normal behaviour at this stage!
DD does preschool at her daycare so she has her class in the am and then daycare in the pm. Sometimes she will tell me about her day, but not much. She will tell me what she did but I notice it is what she did the day before! They have papers on their folders of what they did that day, and I have gotten 1 note so far about how she is doing.
Basically I would not expect too much, if there are any real concerns I would just call and talk to the teacher.
My DS seems to really enjoy going. He never seems anxious about it and we never hear anything bad from his teachers, but like PP said, getting details about his day is next to impossible. If I ask him if he did this or that, he usually says 'no' to everything.
DS is happy at pick up although he would probably like to stay at school longer! Lol. I can usually get a couple of tidbits from him such as what he had for snack or if he painted, but it's limited info. The car ride home feels long bc he's tired and and hungry and gets cranky. Once he's had lunch and some quiet time or a nap he'll tell me more about his day.
I agree with the pps. If I pepper her with questions on the drive home I get a bunch of "no" or she will tell me random things that they did a long time ago, etc. If I give it a rest until she has gotten home and had a snack I am more likely to hear something about her actual day. I think it takes her some time to kind of regroup after getting home before she's ready to process it all. Totally normal!
My DD loves it, but I also get very little out of her when I ask how her day went and what she learned. What I hear most often is that she got candy for sharing and she sang songs and played with babies. I know the curriculum so I know what she is learning beyond that, but I find it hilarious that those are the only things she tells me about. I'm hoping as time goes on ( only been 2 weeks) I will hear more about school.
Re: For those with LO's 3 years old starting preschool......
