Good Crib Mattresses?

I'm looking for a good crib mattress.  I'm concerned about the chemicals they use in order to make them flame retardant though.  I've heard some negative things about these chemicals which seem to show up in everything these days.  Does anyone have any suggestions for ones that are safer and won't break the bank?  Can an organic cover protect from that kind of thing?  Any thoughts, advice, or links would be much appreciated.

Re: Good Crib Mattresses?

  • Do you know anyone who would have one to hand down?  An older mattress would have finished its off-gassing by now.

  • This is the one we're ordering from Costco. It's a company I read up about and the mattress, with a different color fabric, is up to twice as much on other sites. It's $108. I want to get it this week so it is aired out a bit before baby gets here but most people say they can't smell anything when they first open it up.
