My DS is 2 yrs old and has SPD. He has receptive and expressive speech delay. He is in OT and ST every week. I have done sensory diet, with good response. My problem is that my son has a horrible time with transitions. If we are at a park and it's time to leave, he has a huge meltdown, arching himself back, throwing himself on ground, screaming at the top of his lungs. I try to tell him in advance that we are going to be leaving in 2 minutes, etc. He doesn't understand this. He is now having issues transitioning to things at home, which we have never seen, so like transitioning from an activity to eating a meal, is a huge struggle. He is also a huge screamer. He is getting worse. He will scream at anything. If you tell him no or try to redirect him he screams. If a TV show comes on or goes off, he screams, if something doesn't go exactly how he wants, he screams. I know he is frustrated with his lack of speech, but I can't take all the screaming. I have tried to speak quietly to him and show him how I want him to talk, but that doesn't work. I really feel like he doesn't understand what I want, and so I have no idea what else to try.I have also noticed that his "go to move" is to drop to ground and lay on floor if he doesn't want to do something. He has always been good at holding hands when going in to a store or restaurant and now he pulls away and drops. When I try to get him up, a tantrum ensues. I know some of this is him being a 2 year old and learning independence, but any helpful hints would be great. I am at a total loss for what else to try. OT hasn't been able to really help us either. Thanks ladies.
