If babies stomachs can't digest cow's milk, which is why you aren't supposed to give it to them until they are at least 1 yr, why would I give her yogurt that contains cow's milk?
I think the idea is the milk in yogurt is already broken down part way, so babies have less work to do to digest yogurt as compared with straight milk..

this is right. and I concur with all the other pp's who said plain whole milk yogurt mixed with fruit, a lot less sugar, my dd loves it

What MollySm said.
A friend of mine gives her 18 month daughter regular whole milk BUT lactose free yogurt. Which to me is completely ridiculous... Should do totally the reverse if she's so scared about lactose... but hey, it's her kid and her business...
I waited until 9 months (and after DD's 9 month check-up) to give her yogurt. Like some of the PPs, I'm giving her plain whole milk yogurt. I bought some yo-baby yogurt before I realized that it has added sugar so I mix a little bit of it with the plain whole milk yogurt to give it a little more flavor.

It also has to do with volume - DD has like, an ounce of yogurt. Docs would be concerned with a baby drinking several ounces of milk, but they wouldn't freak out if a baby drank 1 ounce of milk.
