Let's talk nursing tops...

Are they a "must have" or a "nice to have"?

And go!

Re: Let's talk nursing tops...

  • I didn't like any of the tops I tried that were specifically made for nursing.  It was easier to just wear a normal shirt and a nursing bra or tank underneath.

this. nursing tops are just kind of strange to me...I don't know, they look weird or fit weird or something. I never used any with DS and don't have any now, either.

  • I bought two from Target. They were $20 each... Can't remember the brand now. Gilliana or something? I wear tank tops and zip ups often, so figured I'd still be in my normal looking outfits, just with a little extra help if I like them.

  • I hated nursing tops, but loved nursing tanks with a hoodie or regular shirt on top. I bought the Target nursing tanks.
  • For the time I'm home on leave, they are a must have.  I have the cantaloop extra long tanks, and I love them.  I especially like the idea of keeping my belly covered while nursing.  Once we go out and about with baby, nursing bra all the way.

  • I just wore normal shirts, a nursing bra, and an undercover mama nursing tank. It worked great for 22mos. DD just weaned this month.

  • Nursing tops are really not necessary but I had about four nursing tanks (from Target--the Gillian & O'Malley brand) in different colors and considered those a necessity.  You can wear them under a cardigan, a zip up or a t-shirt or other shirt--and that way when you pull your shirt up, your entire stomach isn't exposed.

I did like having a couple of nice nursing dresses because pulling up an entire dress to nurse or pump at work is a little awkward.  Sometimes, I just wanted to wear a dress and it was worth it to me.  The ones I liked were at figure8maternity.com.  In fact, there was one that I continued to wear even after I weaned because it was so cute.  They have a good selection and good customer service when I returned something.  It was just nice to occasionally wear a dress.   Not a necessity, but I just liked to occasionally wear a dress.

  • Nursing tops no.  I like regular shirts better.  Nursing tanks - I think are a must have for aournd the house.  They are comfy and easy access.

  • Thanks for all of the feedback, everyone!

Does Target sell their nursing tanks in store, or just online?

  • It depends on your boob size.  If you have a large chest like me, nursing tops probably won't fit well.  I did think that nursing bras and even nursing tanks were a necessity the first time around, though.

  • Nice to have.
I'm bigger chested(DD) & so I have to wear a bra under for the extra support. I only used regular tank tops last time, I had no problem with them. I don't see it being any easier to pull your boob out of a nursing tank compared to a regular tank. It's just extra money to spend, so I'll buy a few extra regular tanks & I can continue to use them after I'm done nursing.
