Nursing Bras and Tanks?

Does anyone have a Bravado nursing bra? They are expensive but seem to get the best reviews? Also, I've seen a lot of people recommend buying nursing tanks at Target. Which brand/style? Finally my stupid question, when looking at nursing tanks what does side sling mean? The online descriptions don't really explain. Thanks!

  • Gilligan & O'Malley is the brand at Target.  I've read good reviews on both their nursing bras and tanks.  There are several different styles, so it really just depends on what you prefer - underwire, no underwire, padding, no padding, etc.

I didn't use a nursing bra with DD.  I just pushed my normal one down or up.  Same with tanks and shirts.  Of course, that was nearly 13 years ago and nursing bras/tanks have come a long way since then.  For now other than a sleep nursing bra, I'm going to hold off to see if I still prefer that with LO.

  • I like the Bravado.... super comfortable.  But if you are going back to work I wouldn't spend the money.  Once I went back to work I was more comfortable in a regular bra that I would just push up or down to pump.  I loved the Medela sleep bras for nursing at night and I also love the Gillian OMalley nursing takns from Target.

  • You wont know your ending size until about 46 weeks pp. so buying the expensive tanks and bras are a waste until then. Also, it's suggested to not get anything with an underwire until then as well. I have a few soft structured bravado bras that I am using now, and will get a few cheap nursing tanks soon. Once everything regulates and such I will buy the nice bravado stuff.

these are the ones from target that i have, and love.  I used them with DD1 and i'll plan to use them again for DD2. Gilligan & O'Malley is the Target brand.  I also had a few nursing bras, but honestly, these tanks were way more comfortable especially at first when i was still getting the hang of nursing.

This, for the most part! Some nursing bra styles are stretchy and fit a range of sizes, that's what I started out with. My favorite nursing bra last time around was this one from Pea in the Pod, Bravado sells a similar one. (It's stretchy, and comfortable enough to sleep in).

  • I looooooove the Bravado bras - I have two and they're STILL the only bras I wear (since about a week after my son was born...and even though I was back at work at 5 months postpartum).  My pre-pregnancy bras are not only too small for my breastfeeding-now pregnant AND breastfeeding-soon to be tandem breastfeeding boobs, but I wore mostly underwire pre-pregnancy and having had mastitis before, I want to do all I can to avoid ever getting it again (and wires can lead to mastitis).  ANYWAY, LOVE Bravado bras.  Both mine totally worth the money paid.  Toootally.

I love the Glamourmom nursing tanks most of all.  Loathe the Target nursing tanks.  If you're busty at all, they just won't offer enough support.  My pre-pregnancy size was a 36C, at 12 weeks pregnant with #1, I was a 38DD, and after he was born I measured at a 38G.  So yeah, no cheap Target tanks here.  The Bravado tanks - I wanted to love them, but I just couldn't.  They had too much of a deep V for my comfort and to offer support.  But the GM's were winners.  I think I have 4 or 5 of them.  And I want more.  Love them (and will probably wear them for the next 5 or so years, BFing or not...even to work under cardigans...they're the most supportive, awesome tanks, IMO).

Could you reccomend a style?  I see lots of styles that seem really similar - nursing bra tank, nursing bra top, basic nursing bra tank...  Thanks!

  • And the Bravado Body Silk Seamless nursing bras are my favorite too.

I've also been hearing very good things about Anita brand nursing bras for more support if the wireless/seamless don't offer enough support.  As I said above, I'm dealing with a G cup over here ;)

  • I am really large to begin with (38DD) so after #1 I was just huge. The Target tanks didn't fit right in the top but I loved the Motherhood Maternity brand. I know they are a little more expensive, but I practically lived in my tanks for the first 3 weeks home. I also couldn't do a nursing bra, they just did not fit correctly.

As for side sling, that means that when you lower the side of the bra, your whole breast is out. The full slings have like a second layer with little circle cut outs, which just sounded totally uncomfortable to me. I liked the side sling the best.

Good luck finding something you like!
