Looks like DD can't tolerate rice cereal

I bought earths best organic rice cereal and after a few days of eating it in the morning and then upping it to 2x a day only like 1/2tbs per feeding DD had such severe gas pains from it that it woke her up and she screamed bloody murder for almost 30 minutes. I tried everything to help her and I think the mylanta plus mylicon drops finally did the trick. I didn't give her any today and looks like we will have to switch and try oatmeal next I suppose. We have a well visit for 5 months on Wednesday so Ill talk to the doctor first before moving on. Anyone else have a LO sensitive to rice cereal?

    Rice cereal can really stop a baby up. I probably sound like a broken record on this subject but I actually plan to skip rice cereal all together and either do oatmeal or just go straight to purees.

    L was ok on the oatmeal (used Earths Best) but I didn't give her a lot of it. I specifically didn't want to do rice cereal since I had heard about it possibly having those side effects. L already has a sensitive stomach, she is milk/soy protein intolerant. However, we gave her fresh bananas over the weekend and she had really bad gas and was crying, waking up all night. So we will try something new although now I am not really interested in giving her any more food. Plus she's only still eating 30oz of formula a day.

    I am sorry to hear this happened to your DD. The same thing happened to my DD and we even had to take her to the urgent care center because she was running a fever. Once we switched to oatmeal everything as fine. Best of luck with the switch!

    Just last week they discovered rice had arsenic levels in it so you might want to stop anyway.

    This is why I am skipping rice cereal. We just started oatmeal with DD2. So far she isn't too excited about it. It's just for practice with a spoon anyway.

    I went thru this also with DD. Nothing like a 4am wake up call. We gave her gas drops, bounced her and after 30 mins or so she calmed down. Haven't given it since, poor thing

    My answer will be the same as the others. Skip the rice and go to oatmeal and/ or veggies. Rice bungs them up. So does banana. GL.
