So while I was off on mat leave (for a glorious Canadian year), I volunteered with a refugee family and visited with the woman once a week for the year. I asked to be paired with someone having a baby, so her kid is 4 months younger than mine.
She saw me using my carriers with my son and asked where to buy one. I felt bad that they're so expensive (they were effectively living on welfare then), so I lent her my infantino wrap and tie. Since I've gone back to work, she's working 5-9 pm and it's just really hard to meet up.
Today I ran into her on the street near where I work, and she was still using the carrier! It made my day to see that (not so) little baby all snuggled in to her mom. They ride the bus to and from English school, so it's very convenient.

Lovely story! You are awesome.
Well... I have an Ergo, a ring sling, and a pouch sling in addition to the mei tai. No one needs 5 carriers, right? I was just so happy it wasn't in a closet gathering dust.
Plus African babies need to ride on their mamas, right? I think she might have been relieved to know that moms *do that* here.
