Our pedi said the only reason it's not recommended for babies under six months is because it has not been studied on babies under 6 months for safety. We will not put it all over LO's body but we will put it in spots that are exposed if we are going to be out all day. We mostly just try to cover him up as much as possible and always use a hat. We use California Baby brand a d its ok. It has a low index on Skin Deep.
Nothing because it is not recommended for children under the age of 6 months to wear sunscreen or bug spray.
If we go out and are in the sun, I just make sure DS is in the shade and out of the sun and put a hat on his head.
That rule is a CYA. No one wants parents to mistakenly believe that it's safe to slather a small baby with sunblock and park them in the sun. Shade is best but if there's the possibility for a burn, sunblock is ALWAYS better.
OP, look for a sunBLOCK vs a sunSCREEN. People speak highly of California Baby and Badger.

This...my pedi told us to use sunscreen on her if we are going to be outside (especially this summer) and keep her in the shade whenever possible. You just don't want to risk the sunburn, and with an older child it is impossible to keep the little one inside all day all summer. So we used Seventh Generation sunblock, which is mineral based. It worked just fine!
I haven't bought any yet, but I am thinking California Baby.
BTW, ladies, there is no such thing as sunblock, they are all sunscreens - there is a law that by the end of the year the labels' wording must be changed.

I don't care what the law will say - there IS a difference. Sunblock is a physical blocker like zinc oxide that provides a literal block on top of the skin. Sunscreens are chemical blockers that are absorbed into the skin. The intent of the law is to standardize what companies call their product because too many use the word sunblock when it doesn't actually have the ingredients that would make it so.
