Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Talk to me about these toys

I can't decide which one to get - My Pal Scout or love to play puppy. This is a gift for my cousin's baby - a boy turning 1. Which do you think he would like better? I have seen both of them referenced here but can't really remember the details. Thanks!

Re: Talk to me about these toys

  • We have the second one and my son loves him.  He loves to push the heart and watch it light up, and he loves to throw himself on the puppy.

One of my friends was trying to make the same decision and she went with Scout because he's softer.

  • We have both.  I like Violet (the Scout for girls), but DD prefered the other one.  She likes the songs it plays.

  • We have the Fisher Price one in pink and DD2 loves it. It's a good distraction toy.

  • DD had Violet but never really cared much for it.  I couldn't have it say her name either because it only has a short list of names to choose from.  It will spell her name but won't say it :-/

  • DS got both for xmas last year. We honestly haven't used the FP one yet but he loves Scout!! He carries him around a lot and loves to jump on him. I think he likes how Scout says his name cause he's always smiling.

  • DD has the second one and absolutely loves it.  We buy Scout/Violet for a lot of our friends' kids for their first birthdays, though.

I'm sad to hear that Scout/Violet doesn't say all names, and only has a list to chose from.  Chances are, Tatum's name isn't on that list.  She'll never have anything with her name on it.

  • I was surprised by the large list of names to choose from and it has some pretty unusual ones, too. Also, there is a list of nicknames you can have Scout say, in case your child's name isn't available (https://leapfrog.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1958).

Scout later spells the child's name in a song and it can be spelled correctly, even if you have to choose a nickname in the previous song.

We got this toy at 6mo old and now at 15mo, he loves it even more. We don't own the other one though, so I can't really compare. I don't know that Scout is educational at all (the 2nd choice has it beat there), but the songs are fun and seem to keep kids' attention.

  • I picked up "Scout" the other day at Buy Buy Baby and got him a toy smartphone for his upcoming birthday since he likes to play around with my iPhone all the time.
