4 weeks and couldnt see baby on ultrasound????

I went in to the doctor today for my first appointment it was confirmed I am pregnant but we could see nothing on the ultrasound. I am a nervous wreck!!! i had hcg levels taken and will go re test thursday I am nervous!!!! has anyone else had this happen

Didn't have this, but I just went in today too and my doctor said he won't even do an ultrasound until 6 weeks as they can't see anything at 4 weeks.

I'm around 5/6 weeks and when I went for my first appt. (at the beginning of assumed 5 weeks) my doctor WOULDNT do an ultrasound for just that reason. She said this early its not uncommon to see "nothing" on the ultrasound and she didnt want me to freak out or become a nervous wreck..so I am going back when I am 7/8 weeks for a 'due date" confirmation appt.

I wouldnt worry...you are still very early. I am sure you and baby are fine.

I am wondering why they are even doing an ultrasound so early. it's normal not to see anything. it is poppyseed size!! heartbeat doesnt start till at least 6 weeks

I was thinking the same thing. My Dr was very dedicated to making me wait as to avoid this kind of nervous freak out. I feel like maybe her dr. just wanted to u/s charge.

I only saw a gestational sac and yolk sac at 5 weeks. 4 weeks is often too early to really see anything on an u/s.

It should be against the law to do an u/s at 4 weeks, it is completely pointless and only serves to make the mother scared and confused.

I'm terribly sorry your Dr. did that to you. Don't expect to see much of anything until about 6 weeks, and even then there may not be a HB yet. By 7-8 weeks, you should see a bean with a HB.

I agree this is too early to see anything. My doc won't even see me to confirm pregnancy till I'm 8 weeks and even then no ultrasound. Sorry you are stressing.

With dd, I had a scan at 4w3d, but it wasn't for the pregnancy. It was a reproductive organ scan though, so the tech was checking my ute out anyway. We saw nada because everything is so tiny at that point, there is nothing to see. No doctor in their right mind would ever do a scan that early because they are pointless.

I didn't have my first ultrasound until 9 weeks. Don't worry about it. Patience will pay off when you get to see your LO
