TTC 40 years old!!!

Hi everybody,

I am new here. We are ttc for 4 months now. We checked almost everything and dont seem to have any pathological problems. Does anyone know if the ttc chances are better for women who already have kids? Iam 40 and have 3 kids from my first marriage they were all conceived without any external help, although the last pregnancy is 7 years ago. My husband is 37 doesnt have any kids and never tried before.

    Hi, we are pretty similar, I have 3 kids from previous relationship, youngest son just turned 8 and my husband is 35 with no kids!

    I got pregnant very easy with all of them, 1st month off BCP with each one. This time we have been trying since January with no luck but my problem is I haven't been ovulating so we did our 1st round of clomid this month.

    I honestly don't think your chances are any better for already having kids, our bodies change so much over the years and our age makes it more difficult.

    yeah I'm starting to believe the same.  I was hoping that the body remebers as I so often hear but it doesnt seem to apply for pregnancy... I know that I am ovulating as I am feeling the exact time and the side every month but I guess  we have to keep trying and hoping for much longer than i thought...

    Me 39 & suspected PCOS, DH 42. Went off BCP when we got married in 11/11, seriously TTC since 3/12.  Six cycles of clomid = BFNs.  Suspected endometriosis & HSG showed both tubes blocked.  Sept 2013 IVF 5D transfer of two perfect embryos = BFN.  Started acupuncture and taking time off to drop some pounds & get healthier before FET in April 2014.

    Hi, welcome to the board.  I conceived DS naturally at 40, so it's definitely possible though our chances decrease over 40.  As pps mentioned, it doesn't matter how many kids you had when you were younger.  You have a much greater chance of easily getting pregnant in your late 20s and early 30s than in your 40s.  But, look at me, so you never know!  Lots of luck!

    Welcome to group!  I am in a similar situation, I have a 19 yo son from a previous relationship and my husband has no children.  We started TTC when we got married, when I was 40, DH was 41.  My only thoughts are, after 6 months of trying-go see a RE.  Wish we hadn't waited a year.  Everything on this journey is hurry up and wait, and moving the ball along at all times is helpful.  Like you, since I have been pregnant before, I just figured that my body would know what to do.  With ladies over 40, the real issue tends to be egg quality-which is also why we have such greater risk of genetic abnormalities.  Good luck!
    TTC since 10/09 Me-43 DH-44 RE and testing 10/10-11/10, Recommending IVF 1/11 New RE AMA and DOR-DH low motility IVF #1.1 cancelled 3/11 due to poor response IVF #1.2 May 2011, one perfect 8-cell embryo, 3dt-BFN, IVF #2.1 Converted to IUI d/t poor response. New RE 9/2011. IVF 2.2 completed using HGH,EPP,DHEA, Q-10 and accupuncture. Transferred one 8-cell, grade one embryo on 10/19. BFP 10/31/11 Chemical pregancy on 11/2/11. Started stims for IVF #3, our final try, on 12-2-11. ET on 12/18. Transferred 3 Grade A embryos-BFFN Planning DE IVF, late March/early April- Donors ER expected to be 4/2-4/4. PAIF/SAIF welcome

    Hi i never had BFP, but I turn 40 jan 2, been trying for 14 months....so welcome I have no advice to give regarding earlier pregnancies....but we can do this one together!

    My Ovulation Chart


    Me: 41 DH: 46. We are TTC our 1st, started July '11,
    3 cycles clomid with Ob,
    1 cycle Tamoxifen with Ob,
    Diagnosed PCOS 11/5/12
    clomid, trigger & timed bd 12/12 BFN
    1st clomid IUI 1/4/13 BFN.
    2nd clomid IUI 2/13 cancelled didn't respond to clomid.
    3/15/13 scheduled laparoscopy & on bcp.

    May 10 IUI from injectibles - BFN 

    May 22 done with interventions it will either happen or it won't. 

    February 2014 No longer actively trying, but not preventing. 

    SURPISE BFP 4/2/2015!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome and good luck. As you see, a lot of us are in that boat with ya. I never ever thought I would NOT be able to get KU this time around. This TTC stuff has been a real slap in the face..... But here I am, here we all are, still trying and still hoping.
