I'm about 10 months post-C/s, and my scar is large, tender and red. I'm just curious how many women have hypertrophic scars and what your experience has been.
I'm kind of embarrassed about my scar, so I bought a one piece swimsuit so it wouldn't show. I'm disappointed because you could actually see it *through* the swimsuit. Ugh. I was getting Kenalog (steroid) injections in my scar from my Ob/Gyn, but just changed insurance. I've noticed the scar has been getting a little larger and more tender/itchy, but I'm debating letting it be or continuing injections through my new doctor. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Poll: How's your scar?
I'm a SS. I've had 3 c-sections. All the same incision. The first 2 times, it was a keloid scar. My OB has kept cutting it out and cleaning the scar. This last time, I didn't keloid. Not sure why.
I don't know what will happen after this c-section (#4 next week). But, if it keloids, it's not a big deal to me. It doesn't show through my swimwear.
I'm not sure how a one-piece helps vs. a bikini. It's the same fabric, no?
Is your scar high? Mine is below my hair line and I dont think they make bikinis that low.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd be pretty naked if I wore a bikini that couldn't cover my c/s scar.
I was also thinking this!!!
mine isn't that bad, white in parts, pink/purple still in the middle. It's below my hair line, so you can't see it with a bathing suit or underwear.
mederma helped me a lot. I used it at bedtime for several months.
I am sorry you have hypertrophic scarring, I think for some, it's genetic (I know keloid can be). Now, if my scar would only FEEL normal, it's still painful/hypersensitive/numb, all at the same time..

My scar from my first c/s was hypertrophic. I had a new OB for my RCS and the incision/scar looks fantastic. I'm only 3 weeks out at this point, though, so I'm hoping it doesn't end up looking like my first.
What did they use to close the incision?
I had dermabond and my scar is pretty nonexistant. It's a very thin, skin colored line right now, but still was pink until about 12 months PP.
If you plan on more kids, that might be something to look into.
My scar is horrible, red and raised. I am having a RCS in a few weeks and she is going to use staples and "hopefully" fix the previous scar. I had a horrible reaction to the surgical tape with baby #1 and they think that may have contributed.
It looks worse as I get more pregnant....
