I've always been a big rollerblader, and I'm looking to purchase a new jogging stroller to use for that and running. Our son is almost 9 months now, but since we live in MN, we'll be using it moreso next summer. Just curious if anyone has done the same and what jogging stroller you recommend. Thanks, in advance!!
Re: Rollerblading Jogging Stroller
I used to run with a stroller all the time, but I've never roller bladed with one. That would make me too nervous.
I used a BOB Ironman, which has a fixed front wheel. For running, some people prefer strollers that have a wheel that can swivel or lock so that you can put it in swivel mode to make it easier to turn when walking (it should always be locked for running). But for roller blading I think I'd get one that had a fixed front wheel so it wouldn't have the option to swivel. I'd be afraid of it becoming unlocked somehow while using it, and if you're going at a higher rate of speed and that front wheel swivels suddenly it could be very dangerous.
Also make sure the stroller has a 5-point harness (I think most do, but some may only have a 3-point harness) and a very secure wrist strap. Which again should always be used. And I'd probably get a helmet for your LO (which they really shouldn't wear until they're at least 1-year old).
All in all, I'd probably look at getting a Chariot. They have kits that can change it from a jogger to a bike trailer to a cross country skiing trailer. And because of this they are more enclosed and have more of a roll cage than a standard jogging stroller.
