Cloth Diapering

fitted diapers

So I am looking at kissaluvs size 0 fitted diapers for the twins when they are NB..... is this a good choice and will they fit twins/ premies okay? Also, I have only ever used pockets so how do fitteds work? Do you need a cover? If so what covers would work well for the kissaluvs size 0? Do you use prefolds in them? I don't know how to use these! Ahhhh!

ETA: how many fitteds and covers will I need for twins?

Re: fitted diapers

  • I am not sure about the fit of Kissaluvs Fitteds, but I don't think that I would use only fitteds with newborns, twins/preemies or not. For me, I love fitteds for overnight because they are super absorbent, so I don't have to bother with middle-of-the-night changes. However, when G was a newborn, I was changing her every time she woke at night just to make sure that she would wake enough to get a full feed. Since this was happening 4-5 times a night, I loved the simplicity of something with snaps.

You don't stuff fitteds with anything- the diaper itself is absorbent. But you will need a cover, either wool or PUL. Right now, we have ONE baby, only use fitteds + covers at night, and wash every other day- and we have 4 fitteds. For twins, if you were using fitteds full-time (and only using fitteds) you would need A LOT of them, and that would probably get quite expensive.

When G was a newborn, we had prefolds, PUL covers, some NB AIOS and ONE fitted that we did use at night once she started sleeping a bit longer and peeing out of her Lil Joeys.

  • I have looked at the Happy Heinys mini OZ, and the swaddlebees NB..... I also have 6 lil Joey's....... I am trying to figure out what to do! I need something that is dad friendly and I know he won't be okay with prefolds.

ETA: I also have 30 OS rumparooz pockets that I have been using on DS and I like those..... I just need something to get the twins from NB to the OS rumparooz. :)

  • KL0s aren't as absorbent as other fitteds, which is what makes them nice for NB. They are great at holding in runny NB poo. We used them with thirsties xs covers. Whatever diapers you use, you will need at least 24 changes/day. You might want to mix NB PFs with fitteds to cut down on cost.

  • When G was tiny, I used the prefolds+covers during the day, and I saved the AIOs for night-time changes and when Daddy was diapering (he didn't like the prefolds+covers). It was pretty economical to do it that way. We had about 12 of each, and I think that I did diapers about every 36hours. If I were diapering twins, I think that I would get 24 AIOs (for night-time and Dad duty) and at least 24 prefolds.
  • What do you ladies think of mini pocket diapers like the Happy Heinys and the Blueberries?

  • We love our kl0's. I got them because they seemed fool proof - less prone to leaks and longer lasting than nb AIO. I wasn't disappointed and we're now using them with our second. A cheaper nb fitted is the Green Mountain workhorse.

regardless of your diaper choice, you'll need 10-12 diapers per baby per day.

ETA these aren't meant to be nighttime fitteds, which is why people say they're not that absorbant, but they work great for newborns since  you change so often anyway

  • I love my Green Mountain work horse fitteds! I wish I bought more for my LO but we're doing primarily prefolds and covers.
