Coming Out of Lurking

Hi girls,

I've been lurking for a while and I feel like I need to come out to support our May girls!  I'm just going to ignore the drama.  Any other lurkers out there?

A GTKY:

Are you dressing LO up for Halloween?  As what?

I think it would be fun to dress my DD up but we don't have anywhere to go and my practical side says it would be silly to buy a costume for one day.  I am buying candy and passing it out to the neighborhood kids though!

Re: Coming Out of Lurking

  • Welcome!!!

DS2 is going to be a caterpillar. DS1 wore the same costume when he was a newborn. It's really cute and super warm. no need for a coat. You could always buy a costume that would be 0-6 or 6-12. If you are planning on having more kids they could always wear it.

  • DD is going as a "ghost". I am cutting out a ghost face (eyes and a mouth) from black felt and putting it on a white onesie. Then I am making her a white tulle tutu and a ghost headband. Low budget and simple, but I think (or at least I hope) it will turn out cute. We don't have any where to go either, so I didn't want to spend a fortune on a costume. But this way she can still pass out candy!

  • DD is going to be Minnie Mouse. MIL bought her a minnie mouse onsie and hat  (complete with bow and ears) that I don't see myself putting on her for everyday outings so I'm going to make it her costume this year. Just adding some tights, her pink tutu and her minnie mouse slippers :)

  • C is going to be a bumble bee. She will dress up to hand out candy with us and our local zoo has an event called zooboo. We are going to go as a family so my parents and friends can see her dressed up! I went a little overboard and bought an outfit from Etsy so I want her to wear it a few times.
  • Hey, I lurk more than I post, but I'm trying to post more.

I bought a "My First Halloween" onsie when it was on sale at Baby Gap last year, so he will wear that. I don't want to spend money on a costume he won't wear very long this year. Next year though...we are doing it up.

  • Welcome!

My dad and step mom bought DS a puppy costume (we are big dog people). So he will wear that Halloween night when we going to each of our parents houses to visit.

  • I found a cute skunk outfit that says little stinker on the butt for cheap at a yard sale. She is just going to wear it to hand out candy with us.

I also found a onsie that says "Don't scare me I poop easy" that she will probably be wearing a couple of times closer to Halloween.

  • I love all of your ideas!  Now I'm inspired to do something creative that won't cost a lot.  Problem is I'm not at all creative so maybe Pinterest will have some ideas!

    Love it!!!!

  • Hi and welcome!

DH and I were thinking about dressing him up as Mini Me from Austin Powers and DH can wear him in the baby carrier on his chest.  Don't know if we will actually do it but it sounds funny :)

  • I bought baby girl a strawberry costume at Old Navy - it's a bunting and I can actually see using it this winter!  My company hosts a halloween party every year for all the employees kids, so she'll be coming with me to work that day, I can't wait!

This is an awesome idea.  I also just saw a cute costume on Pinterest where baby is dressed up as spaghetti and meatballs (yarn and felt?) - so cute!

  • Welcome!

    We CD too. :)

I found a cute elephant costume at Costco (Carter's Brand) -- Only $12.99! She is going to be so cute.

I'm not dressing up... Too much effort. haha.

  • I am a bit of a lurker too, but figure this is a good time to start posting!

My DD is dressing up as a ladybug. My
mom got the costume for her. She will be at daycare that day so I'm sure they will have some sort of party/pictures of the kids in costume.
  • I will try to see if DS #1's first Halloween costume (a pumpkin) will fit him. Otherwise I'm not sure!

  • Lo is going to be a dinosaur.  My sister found the costume for $2 on clearance last winter.  If I didn't have that, I would get him a pj costume so that I can continue to use it.

  • I have been lurking lately.  Mainly because I have failed in my 30 day challenge so I don't really have much to post other than that!

I don't think I am dressing the guys up.  The only reason I would is for a picture... .but we have some haloween jammies (which will probably be too small by then) and a couple of other halloween outfits that will do I think.  I would love to have costumes but yes I am too practical and money is very tight at the moment.

that is a really cute idea!

i got LO a dinosaur costume on craigslist, but I'm not sure it will fit by then, so I also picked up an adorable lobster costume at the consignment sale for $4. We are going to zooboo and will pass out candy.

  • DD may be our one and only so we do everything BIG! She will be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz (bought on Etsy) complete with blue tutu and ruby slippers.  DH can't resist...he's going as the Scarecrow!

  • I'm going to need to see some pictures of your LO's in their costumes!  I love babies in costumes.  I think you all may have changed my mind.  It's her first Halloween and I don't want to regret not having a cute picture of her dressed up :)

  • Cute story about our new Halloween plans.  DH is going to be out of state for work on Halloween and we were all really bummed about it.  I am going to hang out in a neighborhood with a family I used to nanny for.  They have 5 year old twins so I asked one what she was going to be for Halloween.  She told me that she was going to be a witch and when I asked her why she said "Because I want to ride a Swiffer!".  Ah to be a kid in the age of Swiffers instead of brooms.  The other twin then asked what the babies were going to be and I told her raccoons.  She thought about that for a minute and then said she was going to be a raccoon too so she can be the mama!  :)  I'm so excited to see them all dressed up, I got them costumes at Carters.  I always made my costumes and never had a store bought one as a kid, but for now I'm going to buy them.  In a few years I will work on making them! :)

  • My son is going as a bat and my daughter as a ladybug.  It's not really what I had in mind, but I found the costumes at consignment and the price was right!

I did see an idea on Pinterest where a little baby girl was dressed up a Sophia from the Golden Girls.  Good Lord it was cute, but so much work!  Yep, I think a bat and a ladybug will be just fine.

We don't have any big plans anyway.  We're just going to grandma's to watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  It's sort of a tradition with me and my mom.  :)

  • DD will have a custom costume.  She's going to be a cabbage patch kid!  That is, if all works out.  The hair is going to be the death of me!

We plan on going to my SIL to celebrate DH's bday (halloween baby!) and then take DD around the 'hood to show her off.  I can't wait!
