Special Needs

Hello and an intro!

Hello all!

I am Lauren, and I just wanted to say hello!

My daughter is almost 4 years (her BD is only approx 3 weeks away) and she has been diagnosed as ASD and atypically developing. We were prepared for this, as my husband has aspergers syndrome, although his mother has been a special education teacher all of his life, and eventually she went on to get her masters, and is now a school psychologist, so he has had the proper therapy and education since he was little, so he doesn't strike most people as someone with AS.

Currently, DD is in her 2nd year of preschool. The program is peer-modeled preschool, with a mix of "typically" and "atypically" developing students, with the "typically" developing students as the model peers. On top of that, she also recieves occupational and speech therapy. Since June, her speech has really started to flourish. She is such a little person, with her own ideas about the world, and a great sense of humor <3

I just wanted to introduce myself, as I am trying to take myself out of "lurking" mode and be an active participant. I look forward to getting to know you all!
