Re: Waiting to adopt check in 09/23

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? International / Russia / 2 yo boy

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Leaving in two weeks for our court date trip! If that goes well we will bring our little guy home in the end of November.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Had my shower on Saturday!  It was such great fun and I am still overwhelmed by all the love and gifts.  I posted about it in my blog too (link in siggy).

    4) How are you feeling this week? Now that my shower is over I am feeling the need to get everything ready and packed for our next trip.  Excited/nervous/can't wait for it to be over.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have? We have two other couple friends who are adopting.  One couple is in the process of completing adoption #2.  We are all doing international adoption too!  We met through church and it has been really fun to go through this process together and work through the emotions together as well.  Plus I love knowing that our son will have friends with whom he can relate as he grows up.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? Domestic Infant

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Matched, waiting for LO to arrive

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? BF signed the paperwork and it feels like we are building a stronger relationship with e-mom.  Not every communication revolves around the baby anymore. She now sometimes e-mails us just to tell us a story or send us a link to something she likes.

    4) How are you feeling this week? It's been a tough weekend.  We really thought e-mom was going to get checked and possibly start getting induced.  We were just excited to know that everything was going okay, no emergent situations, etc.  She ended up not going, so we are very disappointed.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have? Our family and friends have all been very supportive so we are very lucky.  We also met a couple back in March at an adoption seminar and we've formed a strong friendship.  It's great to be able to bounce ideas off each other and compare notes.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? Domestic infant newborn with a local agency

    2) In what phase of the process are you? Waiting...and more waiting

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Nope. Just waiting.

    4) How are you feeling this week? Stressed. An expectant mother has been reviewing our long profile along with four others for a week. We're hoping to hear soon whether or not we've been picked.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have? I have a couple of informal contacts--one provided by my agency and others who are friends of friends. They've all been helpful, especially with my questions during the homestudy process. It's mostly been just email or chatting over a cup of coffee.

Her EDD was either 9/15 or 9/24 based on her last period in December..so I have to guess at this point, it's closer to 9/24 since this is her 4th child and it's rare to go so late.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? DIA 2) In what phase of the process are you?  We are still waiting to start waiting. They said we would hear something in 2-3 weeks. It will be 5 weeks on Thursday :-(3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? We went to our first Gladney Family Association event this Saturday in New Orleans City Park. Cohen had a blast, and we met some really nice families.  We even got to see our CW, who is super sweet. 4) How are you feeling this week?Very disenchanted. Very ready. Not very patient, or hopeful.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

Not really. I have met a few families from our general area, but none that I have come to know very well, or that live close to us.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?  Foster-to-Adopt, Adoption from Foster Care... 0-6yrs.. but that's not to say that we won't accept an older child if the right situation arises.

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Waiting.. (Seems to be a recurring theme in this process)

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Nope..

    4) How are you feeling this week? A little prostrated... Feels like the living situation will never change... MH was praying, asking God what we should do, about it during church while the pastor was speaking... At that moment our pastor said "Hold on just a little longer".  We cling to the hope that God was speaking to MH through our pastor at that moment....

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have? No.. I actually don't know anyone close that has adopted or even fostered before.  Sort of feel like a pioneer in our circle...lol.  But I wish I did.  I would love our child to have friends that have BTDT.  Another woman at church is doing foster-to-adopt... just had her first placement RU.  I hope to get to know her better too.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

    Domestic infant

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

We were matched last week, baby is due this week.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    See #2

    4) How are you feeling this week?

A little crazy, we both have been scrambling to get things done since the baby is due this week.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

We have several families at church who have adopted and my B & SIL  We have a good relationship they are all people that I go to for advice and support.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

    International / Congo / 0-2y

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

We are collecting our homestudy documents.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

Not really!  It's been fun as our news has gotten "out" - people seem very excited for us!

    4) How are you feeling this week?

Good!  We are going on vacation next week, and we're scrambling to get our documents turned in before we leave.  I need a deadline to motivate me!

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

We know a few other families in the process, and so far, it's nice to compare notes.  A couple weeks ago, there was a benefit dinner for an organization that works out of DRC, and we were able to meet several families that had just completed their adoptions.  It was awesome!!

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? Domestic Infant adoption

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  As of this Wednesday, we will be halfway through our insanely long home study process.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? We ripped apart 3/4 of our house this weekend, put stuff in storage, got things organized, and the soon-to-be nursery is almost completely cleared out so we can start painting and putting baby things in it.

    4) How are you feeling this week? Like this whole home study process is taking foooooreeeeevvver.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have? We are fortunate to have quite a few couples in our life who have adopted their children either recently or many many years ago. I've also been introduced to several co-workers who are either going through this same crazy process or have adopted their children as well. Once the word got out, we were inundated with tons of people who have been in our shoes. We also have several friends in our life who have been adopted themselves, so it's nice to hear things from their perspective as well as adopted children. It's been a huge source of encouragement for us to have people we trust and know we can go to if we have questions or need any support.

  • 1 What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

Foster to adopt ages 2 months to 9 years oldn

2 In what phase of the process are you?

    Waiting for my first placement

3 Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    Nope.

4 How are you feeling this week?

I had a mandatory minimum standards training tonight so I got back in touch with the fostering world. I'm just trying to hang in there and be patient as I wait for my first placement.

5 QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive or adopting parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

I don' t know anyone personally that has adopted. You ladies are my support system.

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Frustrated phase.  BM is due in December, recently she has become very needy/greedy for money.  Not sure why.  Lawyer and social worker are dealing with it, but it makes me so angry that we may be getting played.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? no. unless getting my paycheck finally from August counts.  It's been a long 6 weeks with no income.

    4) How are you feeling this week? See above.  If this BM has been scamming us I think I will scream so that all of you will hear it.  I am completely disgusted with what they are asking our lawyer for which means we pay for it.  Some of the stuff has been a flat out no, but supposedly they have no heat and now we have to buy heaters for their house.  Their landlord is the BF mother and we were just informed she is raising the rent.  Sounds fishy to me, since a landlord should be supplying heat especially if they want to raise the rent.  I am hoping the social worker will get to the bottom of all of this, but I feel like I am an ATM machine.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

My SIL's sister adopted 3 of her four kids.  We haven't really discussed much with them, but overall my family is familiar with adoption and excited for us.  Just hoping everyone doesn't get disappointed in December.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

     Domestic infant adoption

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

6 months of waiting on Thursday. Finally inboard with agency #2, hoping things pick up.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

     Not really...

    4) How are you feeling this week?

So-so. Sorta sad. Trying not to be discouraged, it's hard I am surrounded by people who are pregnant or have babies/toddlers.  I just wish there was more action with our profile.

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

My parents and grandmother have been amazing. A couple close friends have also been wonderful. I've made a friend through a friend who adopted and she's just fabulous! Oh and this board of course!

TTC since 12/09! 12/11 - Moving onto our adoption journey...03/27 - Home Study Approved and WAITING!
  •  I haven't responded in several weeks...

    1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

Foster to Adopt, interested in ages 0-12

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

Our forever kiddos (brother 11, sister 10) moved in June 30.  We're in the 6th trial period and hope for all adoption paperwork to be complete mid by mid-January.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    Less stress with homework

    4) How are you feeling this week?

emtionally - pretty good!  physically - I feel like I am getting some kind of cold/flu or something :(

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

I work with two people that have adopted internationally.  We have a network of other foster parents through our agency.  No one in either of our families or close friend circles has adopted.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

    Domestic infant adoption

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

    Waiting - 5 months

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    Nope

    4) How are you feeling this week?

Feeling like we're never going to be chosen!

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

I have several coworkers who have adopted and are very open about it. It's nice to be able to ask questions of others who have been through what we're going through!
  • I haven't posted here in ages, but I'm trying to "delurk".

    1) Domestic infant adoption. We are open actually up to age 2.

    2) We have finished our first home study visit and will have the next/last one in about 2 weeks. Everything else is done, so we will be officially waiting very shortly.

    3) We got our copies of our life book in the mail on Friday!

    4) Pretty excited, actually. Once we finally got our paperwork done, everything so far has gone surprisingly fast. It's really encouraging, although I know the real waiting has only just begun.

    5) We know many couples who have adopted. In fact, in our circle of friends we've seen just about every possible adoption outcome--agency, private, international, special needs, scams, foster/adopt, and a couple of "failed" matches. We know all these people through church or our workplace. Most of them are people we would consider close friends and have been so helpful with encouragement and advice.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

We plan to adopt through Foster Care. We are looking at adopting a girl anywhere from newborn to age 10. We are also open to adopting girl/girl siblings.

     2) In what phase of the process are you?

We are on our 4th week of PS-MAPP classes and have our first home consultation meeting next week.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    Nope.

    4) How are you feeling this week?

Stressed. I am working 3 days a week, taking 2 Master's Courses, taking the PS-MAPP class once a week and trying to take care of my 2 little boys. It's a lot to handle, but worth it. :)

    5) QOTW: Do you have a support system of other adoptive (or adopting) parents? How did you meet them? What kind of a relationship do you have?

I am adopted, my mom is a counselor, so that is a big support right there. There is 1 couple we met at our class that we like and may stay in contact with after we finish the class. I also have a few friends have adopted children or have been adopted themselves.
