April 2012 Moms

Creating a monster?

So I decided I wouldn't be giving my daughter ANY food until she hit 6 months. But, it's really hard? She wants it all, and now gets frustrated when I eat in front of her. I want to let her taste things because it's funny to watch.

Anyway when we went apple picking, I bit the skin off and gave her an apple to suck on. She was in heaven, obviously since sugar water was coming out of it,lol. Then last night I was a Trader Joes "fruit flo" aka a fancy popsicle, and she kept trying to get it from me so in the end I let her suck on it for a few seconds. She was ecstatic! Then I took it away and she screamed.

So now I've given my daughter a sweet tooth (or sweet gum?) by giving her as her first two food tastes- apple and a popsicle. Now when I give her a green bean she'll be like WTF is this mom, gimme one o them popsicles!!

Re: Creating a monster?

  • DD started rice cereal this weekend.  SHe had been eye-balling our food sooooo much and reaching for it and (yes I have let her lick an apple slice and a carrot stick) I just imagined she was dying to eat.  Well turns out she either just hates rice because I have ruined her with an apple slice OR she isn't quite ready to eat because she wants nothing to do with that cereal.  Uhg.

hopefully this won't be your case Indifferent

  • If you bf, I wouldn't worry about creating a sweet tooth. breast milk is super sweet, so babies are predisposed to like sweet things.

Fact: DS2 did not eat baby food. He in fact hated it. No matter what I gave him, sweet or not, he gagged on everything. We ended up doing BLW with him because that's the only way he would eat anything. It was so much easier than purees, so I'm planning on doing the same thing with Lexi.

  • She'd probably get excited if you let her put a rock in her mouth, at this age. Don't sweat it!

  • I had every intention of giving only vegetables for the first week or two. His very first food was a big juicy peach. Whoops! But he still likes to eat absolutely everything - seriously, I haven't found anything this kid won't eat.

  • Riley had banana and sweet potato first, but she still loved veggies (I consider sweet potato sweet like fruit!) She eats more vegetables than anything else most nights.
