So... does teething really mess up things that badly?

So I was chatting w/ my friend today on gchat and she logged off and sent me a text saying that her 14 month old won't let her chat. I was like - he's not in bed? It's 9pm over here. She said no, he had a late nap, and who knows when he'll be in bed, maybe 10 - his schedule is all f-ed up bc of teething. Yikes. Does teething really mess up schedules this bad? I am scared...

  • It varies from baby to baby - even tooth by tooth.  There were times where Linz's schedule was effed because of teething, but most of the time she was fine.

  • I don't know, but I'm effing terrified of teething. DS had such horrible sleep issues until recently I really don't want to regress!

  • Yes.

    Sometimes.

But sometimes, you look in their mouth and there's a new tooth that you didn't expect!

Ibuprofen is our family's BFF during teethtimes.

  • 2 year molars are ruining my life right now. It's taking DD an hour to go down for nap, she's crying and stalling at bedtime, waking an hour earlier than normal, and woke crying 3 times last night. It's awesome. Same happened with her canines and one year molars, I think the incisors weren't as bad.

  • LO only has 2 teeth so far, so I can only speak for that experience, but yes, it screwed up his sleep big time. It took way longer to get him to sleep, and he would wake up screaming usually about an hour later. He wasn't napping at all. It seemed like the 4mw all over again.

This. DS1 did not do well with teething, but DS2 was never phased by it. I"m hoping for the latter with Lexi.

  • First two teeth there were no issues until after they cut through the gum. Now she is having major issues and I think she is going to cut another tooth soon.

Anything that goes near her mouth is pushed to the side and chomped on HARD. It is affecting her sleep at night most. Please let this pass soon. I hate teething :(

  • At 6m, we still have no signs of teeth at all yet and I'm stoked about that!  Edie didn't get any until around 9m.  Then only had 4 until almost 18m.

Now, she's all caught up.  Even has all 4 of her 2y molars!  It went so fast.

  • When DS1 was teething, he would not sleep well, and woke often.

He just got in one of his 2yr molars a few months ago.  It was worse than any other tooth so far, and I am not looking forward to the other three!
