Re: Diaper changing skills

  • DS is not sitting or standing yet, but his twisting and turning is getting really old. I seriously need to manhandle him down to get him changed. Legs are everywhere! I too need some skills.

  • Standing has become the easiest way to get him changed. it usually involved an elbow or knee to gently hold the back of the diaper while I fasten the sides. Same with getting him dressed it is always standing up now.

  • Ha! If you find a way, let me know!

I keep an empty (plastic) water bottle at the changing table and that usually distracts him long enough to get the fresh diaper on. When he tries to roll around, I tickle him on the side that I want to get back down on the pad and that always works! I like that that way he stays happy, too, and giggles his way through the change. ;-)

  • I am sorely lacking in the changing diaper skill department...I do what Ricola suggested and have a toy ready to give to her when I begin changing her diaper...most times she is distracted by the toy and I am able to change her diaper with little to no wiggling.

  • DS is obsessed with our TV remote.  So, I bought him a cheap remote and I keep that on his changing table.  He only gets to play with it when I'm changing him.  It keeps him distracted most of the time.

The rest of the time, I've got a wiggly boy on my hands.  He is quite strong and will try his hardest to flip onto his tummy when I'm changing him.  I'm going to try Ricola's tickling idea to see if that can keep him on his back!

  • Has anyone tried the easy up's diapers for this? I was wondering if they made things easier...I really don't want to buy more expensive diapers, but little C is becoming more and more wiggly. Sometimes I have to flip him over 4 times during one diaper change...then he gets mad and cries!
