April 2012 Moms

Finally decided to start weaning to formula :(

Have been on a total elimination diet and DS2 has failed all the foods we have reintroduced have failed so I am living on turkey, chicken, rice, potatoes and some veggies... Which I am not dedicated to keep up long  term..  The good news is neocate is covered by our insurance!

So sad but know that it is the best for both of us. So just trying to enjoy these last two weeks.

  • Well hopefully he system recovers and is able to enjoy the foods when he is over 1. You should be SO proud that you went this long. I only made it to 2 1/2 months.

And that is great that neocate is covered. When we thought we would have to go on it we kept getting denied by insurance and I was so scared about the cost.

  • What is funny is they cover the formula no questions asked but not Prilosec...fortunately our local pharmist is giving it to me at cost.

2.5 months is good, with my first I only made it to 6-8 weeks because I was so uninformed about intolerances and he outgrew it all at 18 months so fingers crossed!

  • Aw, good on you for lasting so long on such a restricted diet! I'd probably have given up long ago. It will be fine, and hopefully he will be able to have these foods later. They usually grow out of it right? fingers crossed he does. And he'll be fine on formula, babies usually are! But I know, it is sad to have to give it up.

Thankfully insurance is paying for the formula! I have heard that hypoallergenic formula is incredibly expensive.

  • Wow, props to you for keeping up with such a restricted diet. I don't think I could do that. I'm glad the formula will be covered for you.
  • It really was a hard decision for me to stop nursing DD but she was miserable. At the time, my supply was terrible, she wouldn't latch even with a shield, and we we're supplementing half of her bottles with formula. She would scream bloody murder after a bottle and after 3 days of that we saw the pedi. She ended up being a MPSI baby. : We started her on hypoallergenic formula and she was a brand new baby! Happy and content all the time. The screaming stopped and she started sleeping. So from a mom who had to stop nursing, and cried for days, I know exactly how you feel. It gets better. ::hugs!::

  • I'm sorry you have to stop nursing before you planned. It is hard enough when you are ready. I hope the transition to Necoate goes smoothly.
