Who has already turned on the furnace, or are considering it?

Just wondering how many people have turned the furnace on...we turned ours on a few days ago, but DH and I are having a dispute over what temperature to turn it to.  It gets really cold at night and in the morning in the house, and both the baby and I are cold (poor little guy's hands and face are ice cold when I go to nurse him, yikes!) and I've been turning it to around 69 or 70 degrees...DH is saying that that is "wasting energy" and he wants to keep it between 65-68.  I tried keeping it at 68 but it's still too cold for me at night.  Usually I'm a penguin and I like it to be nice and cold in the house, but I just haven't been able to stay warm.  So, if you've already turned on the furnace, what temp do you set it/like it at?

  • Ours is set to come on at night. We keep it at 72.

  • I just turned on the heat today. X woke up with a cold nose and cold ears so I took the plunge. I set it at 20 degrees celcius. Sorry I have no idea what that is in f lol

  • We turned it on last week! Only at night, because the temps have been dropping so much at night and her little hands and face were like ice. Usually it's around 70-72 for her. If it were just us, the heat wouldn't be on yet.

  • Before this winter, we always kept it at 65 (the bedrooms were more like 63).  I don't know what we will do this winter, maybe 67.  I hate wasting energy, so I'd rather bundle everybody up at night I guess.  I refuse to do 70, that's far too expensive haha

  • I live in an apartment building so it's out of my control, but I bet it will be on by Oct 1st.

  • It has already been in the 20's at night here so our heat is on. I keep it at 7374. Our base house is old and drafty so it doesn't get to 74 in here.

  • We have. One morning I woke and it was 60 in the house!! Baby had cold hands and face and was restless poor thing.

So far I've put it to 68 which feels good now but in actual winter we'll probably do 70. Going to get expensive this winter! Brrr

  • Nope!  We just barely turned off the a/c, and have found that seasonal sweet spot where we can open our windows.  It's fantastic.

We tend to keep our home fairly cool.  Better for our electricity bills, and we prefer it.  Maggie is a hot baby, so she's fine with the cooler temps inside.

  • We did. It got down to 42 last night. Like fun I am going to crawl out of bed to feed Babysaurus at 3 AM in a 42 degree house! We keep it at 68 during the day and 70-72 at night.

  • I definetly considered it over the weekend.
  • Ous is set to 71 at night, and I've been waking up sweating. I thought it was hormones, because DH isn't hot (and he's ALWAYS hot), but now I'm wondering if 71 is too high for us.

  • This thread is killing me. I want it to cool down so bad. It was 90 over the weekend (again!) with no A/C.

  • We've been getting down to the 30s at night, and LO's poor feet and hands are still freezing in the mornings when we get up even with the heat on. We turned it on probably last week, we usually set it at about 70-72. DH is a baby about cold so I will catch him turning it to like 74 and we'll all be sweating.

  • I wish! It's still 90 degrees here!  I actually hope it stays warm a little longer, and DS1 was invited to a birthday party in two weeks where there will be a pool.  I know he will want to swim!  When it does get colder though, I set it at 68.  We have two-story, so downstairs is a little cooler, but that's what my million afghans are for!
