Preemies

update: 4th hospital visit for me

Hi ladies...I intro'ed last week, just in case I have a preemie, since I'm having issues with PTL.

So around 10 last night, I started noticing more frequent contractions and my back had been hurting all day. I called to ask if I could take my Procardia a couple of hours early to see if that would help the contractions subside, rather than going back in. But they told me to head to the hospital. They think I have a UTI, but won't know for sure until the culture comes back on Tuesday. But they went ahead and started me on antibiotics. I was having contractions 3-5 minutes apart, but the on-call doctor wasn't concerned with those because they weren't strong or painful. They did do a cervical check and I am 1 to 1&1/2 cm dilated and about 25% effaced. However, the FFN for predicting labor in the next 2 weeks came back negative, so he doesn't think anything is happening anytime soon.

Only stayed in triage for 4 hours and got to come back home, thankfully. But it's really getting physically/mentally draining to keep going back and forth to the hospital. Every time, I'm shaking like crazy because I get so nervous that this is it and I want him to keep cooking longer!

  • I imagine you would be! It's scary to think "this is it" - ohh, I know that feeling all too well. I'm glad you were sent home and are 32+ cooking.

  • Hmmm. I am not a dr and don't want to cause you any more stress, but I will tell you that my preemie birth went FAST and no one at my hospital was prepared or helpful. If you think you are in labor you need to get very assertive with your OB or hospital staff. If you're approaching labor you should be considering options such as steroid shots for lung development etc. you also need to know which hospital in the area would be housing your little one post birth, so you go There to deliver...else wise you'll be separated ....these are conversations that should happen with your medical professional. If you're worried, call him or her for a consult and be clear and assertive! I wish I had been!
