We moved to a new neighborhood in early August, and we really love it. We just joined a group that's forming a co op preschool for kids age 18 months to kindergarten. The crowd starting it thinks a lot like us in terms of environmental sustainability, lanugauge and literacy education, etc., and since we'll be a founding family, we'll have a lot of say in the curriculum and philosophy of the school. We're very excited!
Also, there should be some hyphens in there.

Re: Very cool life development
Oh my, I am so envious! That sounds amazing. I would love to have that. My friend just started a preschool coop in her neighborhood in the bay area and loves it. We need to move to more of a neighborhood, period. Was this just happenstance or did you know this neighborhood had this coolness factor?
I would be excited too. There is a great co-op here but the demands of the parents just don't work with the demands of households where both parents work traditional schedules.
Will the teachers be parents? I've read of a few different types of these groups.
That sounds awesome. I wish our neighbourhood had some sort of parent community but I feel like we are so disassociated. Also anything there is that is a parent group type thing is usually moms who get together and it's always during the day. I met so many great ladies in my moms group on leave but now I can't participate in anything becuase it's all "who wants to go do xyz on wednesday at noon" and whatnot.
Maybe we need to move somewhere cooler.
Where do you live?
Harpersmom, the plan is to hire one teacher plus one or two teacher's aides and have parents also come in as teacher's aids or to run a particular session. But there will also be lots of co op jobs that can be done at any time, eg budgeting and whatnot, since not everyone has a flexible schedule.
Hopefully it all goes well and takes off the ground!
