DH and I are just talking about having another so I am WAY ahead of myself, but my two children's names don't seem to "match" at all (unless you consider not popular at time of naming a matching quality). DD is 13 and her name is BrookLynn, DS is Donald and we are considering Kateri or Tziporah for our next child if it is a girl. Are these so far off from each other that you would side eye, or don't you think it matters?[Poll]

Re: How important are matching names to you?
BrookLynn and Donald are night and day to me in terms of styles, so IMO your sibset already doesn't 'go' together. I think Tziporah or Kateri fits much better with Donald in terms of style (both older/unique but not yooneek) than BrookLynn. If they are the names you love, though, I don't think it matters at all. I wouldn't side eye, but might wonder if maybe your children were from two different relationships which might account for the difference in styles.
For me personally, I don't rule out names based on how they sound with DS's name, but most of the names I like are of a similar style anyway. I think that when my children are all named, they will sound like they came from parents who had the same taste in names, if that makes sense.
Well, in all honesty, they are from different relationships but I chose both names (obviously years apart but I still love both). Thanks for the input...it's really just something I think about because when my parents named my siblings and I, I don't think our names really "went" My sisters are Michelle (new, trendy at the time), Deborah (old school), Sarah (again old school).
It is, I find myself drawn to hebrew/old testament names, always have.
Not really what I was asking but thanks for the input, despite what people might say, a name is something that is always judged!
I agree with this. Although I enjoy complementary sibsets (preferably NOT matching), I don't think it should be the driving factor in choosing a name. After all, each of your children will spend the vast majority of his life out of the context of his siblings.
I think Kateri goes with BrookLynn and Donald more than Tziporah does, but I can't explain why.
You are right that BrookLynn and Donald aren't really the same style to begin with, so finding something that "matches" both will be hard. Maybe look for something with a similar background to Brooke, Lynn and Donald (at least something English/Scottish in root).
Katherine would be the English alternative for Kateri
Tzipporah goes to Seffora... maybe Josephine?
I voted that it does not matter to me, and it truly doesn't. However, DH and I have picked out our favorite names and they are all family names-from both sides. I think they all have the same style, but if they didn't it wouldn't change my mind on any of them:
DH and I are "planning" on 3 and this LO is a girl.
So we'll end up with Ruth, Carol, and Kimberly if all girls; Ruth, John, and Carol if 2 girls one boy; or Ruth, John, and Lloyd if 1 girl 2 boys.
This.
This.
I voted for the first one, although I don't want them to 'match' I want them to complement. So if I have a 3rd I wouldn't end up with Theodore, Francis, and Bentley or Theodore, Francis, and Makynzee.
I think that a sibset of BrookLynn, Donald, and Tzipporah is really all over the place. But as PP pointed out your current childrens' names are already different styles. While I prefer the name Tzipporah of the two, I think that as a sibset, BrookLynn, Donald, and Kateri works better.
Tzipporah just has such a religious tone to it that it really stands out from the other two names. I think it would work better if the other children already had Bible names, kwim? If you really want to use it I would MN it.
