Bipolar disorder and disability benefits

My DS is almost 11 years old.  Has been diagnosed with Bipolar d/o and severe anxiety.  He attends a local day treatment program.  My question is: does he qualify for any type of assistance because of his diagnosis?  I have too much in assets to qualify for SSI.  Not even sure where to go to apply for anything further.  We live in NY state if that helps.  Any advice??  TYIA, -S

    I live in NY too and my sister (adult) gets maybe a buck or two from SSI but what she does qualify for - is Medicaid.  I think she also did even as a child.  I'll check with my mom and let you know.  My sister's dx is "emotionally disturbed" (not sure if that's an actual dx but that's what I've heard when they're talking about her) and severe anxiety.
