Red raspberry leaf tea

Tell me all about it!

My MW suggested that I start to have a cup a day right now.

When do I start drinking more? Did you drink it? What results did you have? School me like a first grader :)

Re: Red raspberry leaf tea

  • I just started drinking it today!  I think I tried to do three cups a day (I need to ask my MW tomorrow if I can drink three cups now or if I should wait until I get closer to EDD).  Not sure if it made my labor any shorter (17.5 hours), but I think it really helped my recovery.  My postpartum nurse came to check me a day after delivery and commented that she couldn't believe I had just had a baby that my ute was shrinking so fast!  She should know I guess!  I never had post delivery pit or anything, so that was all my own body's doing :)

  • I drank it in the 3rd tri with DS1.  I had a cup or two a day (big cups, I love tea).  I don't know if it helped, but my labour with him was 9 hours from first sign (water breaking) to delivery.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I drank it when I was pregnant with my son but didn't actually start drinking it until 37 weeks. I was drinking like 4 or so cups a day and after the first week I could actually feel the random contractions I was having becoming stronger. My labor with my son was less than 10 hours from first contraction to birth and I only had to push once and he was out. So I will definitely be getting some RRL tea again for this baby!

  • Wow! All sounds like excellent reasons to drink RRL tea to me! Thank you ladies! Happy tea drinking :)
  • I will start with 1 cup per day at 32 weeks and then up it to 2-3 cups per day at 36 weeks.

  • I just started drinking it today. Aiming for about 3 cups a day for now, and then upping the potency (by brewing overnight) and quantity around 4 weeks before the due date.

  •  I started with a cup or two a day of the Traditional Medicinals in the second trimester, but I was terrible about remembering to drink it so it was very sporadic. In the third trimester, I've been brewing it from loose leaf stuff online. I try to remember brew a quart of it at night (leave it out overnight then put it in the fridge in the morning) and drink a bunch throughout the day.  Again, I'm very inconsistent with this.  I bought the pill form so I can pop one if I remember to take it and it's too late. I feel absolutely nothing in the uterus or fetal movement or anything like that, no matter how much I've had to drink, so we'll have to see. I've heard that some people are more sensitive to it, so it's good to start slowly and with your MW.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post links to other forums here(?), but if you google "RRL tea tribe" a very informative thread should pop up!

  • I've been drinking it (with nettle) since I had a positive hpt. I love the taste and my husband and midwives are happy I'm drinking it. Since I've been drinking it from the beginning I can't say what it does but I can say what it doesn't do: I've heard a lot of misinformation about RRL tea being a labor inducer. Of course my husband (who is a health foodie) and my midwives say that it is only for uterine toning and that it aids in a smoother labor. I have not had any BH or any sort of uterine cramping so I can dispel those rumors of RRL tea being a labor inducer.

What my husband discovered in his research is that Native Americans have relied on RRL tea to aid the mother in carrying and birthing her child. It was also a treatment for hormonal conditions such as forms of endometriosis. It is good for women both during pregnancy and at all other times of her life from puberty to beyond.

It can relieve some negative postpartum symptoms but is not often recommended for use during breast feeding. It is good for maintenance of a healthy prostate but is not recommended for those with prostate cancer.

That's pretty much what I know about it. Why don't you ask your MW for more info on it?

  • I take RRL capsules instead of drinking the tea.  I take 4 capsules a day (2 morning and night), and have since I was 12 weeks, at the recommendation of my MW.  With baby #1, I took it starting at around 27 weeks.  I do think it had a positive impact on my birth and recovery.
