I'm struggling with when/how to wean DD. I'm not in a rush and already feel like I'm in a minority among those I know for being just past 1 year. I work part-time and pump 2x at work to make the two bottles (cups soon) DD gets there. At home she nurses before both naps, bedtime and once overnight.
I'm not in a huge rush and want to take it slow so it is easier on us both. I've read that babies don't generally self-wean before 2 but all are different.
I'm curious what folks have experienced here and what if any advice you'd share about heading to 18 months or so. My only real wish is to drop the work pumping and still be able to nurse when together-- I haven't had awesome supply so I worry a bit that it will be the end if I dump the pump.
Re: baby led weaning (EBF not solids)
I returned to work at 12 months and haven't pumped once. We're still nursing. No issues at all.
Nothing really changes because of a birthday. I just nurse when we're together and he wants to nurse. He's nowhere close to weaning at 16 months. He gets a bit of WCM at daycare, but mostly just water.

First - I think your supply would be fine if you ditch pumping and just nurse when you are with her.
Second - don't worry so much about the definition of self weaning. True "self weaning" would mean that you'd never given her a bottle. Heck, even introducing solids begins the weaning process. Nursing is a relationship - BOTH of you are involved in the weaning process - and that's a good thing!
The right time to wean is when it feels like the right time - whenever that happens for you! It sounds like you are happy to continue with your current routine of nursing at home but would like to drop pumping - I'd do that and go with the flow from there! Most of the time, toddlers who have nursed this long are happy to continue with those few special sessions well into the second year.

I stopped pumping at 14 m but only bc it took me 4 months to wean off the pump (from 2 sessions in 8 hrs). DD started refusing EBM at 10m.
We still nurse at 3y8m. I'm tandem nursing with her new brother. At 35w pregnant, I had to limit her (first time ever) bc it was causing contractions. Now she nurses once every couple days.
