CP: Blanket in the crib...

I have always been very hesitant to put one in the crib, but it is getting cold at night (40s) and we haven't yet turned on the heat and Stella's room is a bit chilly, so last night, I had her in footed pjs (not fleece), socks and a tee underneath and when I put her into bed, I put an afghan in and pulled it up just to her waist. First time I've done this. Don't know if this is related or if they are mutually exclusive, but I did not hear a peep out of her until she woke up this morning as I was coming out of the shower.[Poll]

I do, but it's mostly for her comfort, not for warmth. It's just an A&A muslin one, so super thin. If she's really tired when I put her down she leaves it on her, but most of the time she's cuddled with it or flopped on top of it.

I voted no, but DD wears a sleep sack at night. We've tried blankets during naps, but she just tosses them out of the crib. Plus she rolls all over the place and would never keep a blanket on.

We are still using a sleep sack because I don't think she can keep a blanket on herself during the night. I plan to buy a few fleece ones soon and will probably use them for awhile longer.

We gave up the sleepsacks by (I think) around 6 months. She was clearly getting pissed that she couldn't move as freely as she would have liked.

I am a SS I think: It's getting chilly here to and I thought DS might be warmer with a blanket so I tried to introduce one.

He moves around so much I had to go in and readjust it when I checked on him at night. After a few nights of this he started screaming everytime I tried to put him in the crib with it. I think he's afraid of it because he'd throw it off and everytime he woke up it was back on Tongue Tied

It will be a while before we try again . . .

I voted yes b/c last night was a chilly night and she woke about 230 and seemed cold. I sat with her on the chair for about 2 minutes with a blanket and snuggled and then popped her back in the crib and left the blanket with her. She sleeps in long sleeve and long pants pjs and a sleep sack which is usally fine. She seemed to snuggle under the blanket and was fine from there. I did check the video monitor like 10x but she did ok. She does move around the crib alot so we'll see how this goes. I'd rather move to the fleece pjs rather than have to go in there to keep covering her.

We have a few times, and I'm planning on giving her one regularly once it gets colder. I'll put it over her legs and belly when I put her down, and see where it ends up!

I haven't stocked up on fleece PJs for this year yet, so maybe once I do, and once the heat is on, we can ditch the blanket again (DH is not comfortable with using one in the crib and I am not 100% either, but don't want her freezing in there!

Is my kid the only one who stands up and cries every single time she gets put in the crib? There is no way she could use a blanket it would never stay on.

Avery now has two blankets, a pillow pet, and a small pillow that is just her size. She always puts everything on her head. It freaked me out he first few times but that is just how she sleeps.

ETA: Explain: She pulls the blanket or pillow up over her head. She is a stomach sleeper. So she usually is covered up from the head till about her butt. Her little legs will be sticking out. I go in and check on her one or two times before I go to bed and have to adjust the blanket or throw her second one over her legs.

We haven't given her one yet and I dont think we will only because there is no way she'll stay underneath it. I've been keeping the house a bit warmer though bc of DD2.

I voted SS because I would like him to sleep with one, whether he uses it to cover up with or not, but every time I put one in with him he thinks it's playtime and just plays with it and takes forever to go to sleep.

Sleepsack for us too. OP, you could try a sleepsack again. Maybe she'd be fine with it now.

I asked my pedi about blankets when I took DS for his 15 month appt. this week. I've always heard that blankets are a suffucation risk and that you should have a fitted sheet and nothing else in the crib. Our pedi said that it was fine, just use something light.

We're in Oklahoma, so it's still warm, but (hopefully) we will have some cooler weather soon!

He has a blanket but it is rarely on him. Over the past week we also added a pillow and two teddy bears. I was trying everything to get him to not scream bloody murder in his crib when his teeth were bothering him. I think he really likes the pillow.

This is true up until 12 mo. Around a year they have the ability to help free themselves from any tangles in a blanket. Big Smile

Audrey started using hers about a month or two ago, but it's more of a lovey. Honestly, at this age, I'm not even a little world. She has been so mobile for so long, and she is more than strong enough to move if she is in a spot where she can't breath that I'm just not worried.

I was hesitant and worrying out loud to my sister about giving Vito a pillow to sleep with. As I'm explaining this to her, Vito was walking across the living room carrying a gigantic bean bag over his head. She said, "ummm I think he's strong enough and old enough to have a pillow, Jill." So yeah...I was worried, but then I realized he's a toddler now.

Well. This is definitely true when they are little. I guess by 15 months, I just feel most babies would be strong enough to move if they are unable to breathe.

This is awesome! I was wondering what in the world we were going to do this winter b/c DD plays, walks around, flips over, etc. every single night before actually falling asleep and there is no way she would be happy with a regular sleep sack, much less keep a blanket on her all night. Thanks for showing this to me!!

Em has never used a blanket or a sleepsack at home. She didn't use a sleepsack because she hates her feet being covered. We tried many different ones and never lasted the night. We aren't going to use a blanket until she is in the toddler bed. But at daycare, she does have receiving blanket that she hugs when she sleeps. They gave her that, not me.

We've let Ty sleep with a muslin A&A blanket since he was maybe 7 months. This year when it gets colder I'll probably give him a thicker blanket. Over the summer it was mainly a comfort thing. He's a blankey kid. Stopped using the paci at 7 months, never really liked lovies, etc. but his blankeys he rubs to his face when he's tired. Adorable!!

I have tried putting a blanket with DD and she just kicks it off everytime. During naps she will sometime keep it on but seems like she hates being covered up.

When he was younger yes, but he moves all over and there's no reason for it now. I still voted yes though, because I see no issue with it

I said yes, but they hardly use it as a blanket. I will tuck them in, but then when I check on them before I go to bed the blanket is usually at the other end of the crib.

Seamus has had a blanket for at least 6 months. At first it was just his AA muslin one, but he'd kick it off so we'd cover him before we went to bed w/an add'l blanket. MH keeps the house inctredibly cold bc he works in an unair conditioned shop and it would get up to 112 F in his area, so while I understand, S and I get cold lol. Also, I always kept the quilt that came with his bedding set on, just tucked in, it just seemed cozier. Anywho, he's just recently figured out it is also a blanket and prefers to cover himself new trick this as of last week with it, in addition to building a nest out of his kiddie pillow, a brobee pillowy animal, and musical monkey, and 2 other blankets, AA and an afghan. Probably not what parenting experts call safe, but this kid's a spider monkey and is very good at maneuvering.

I was just thinking about this last night/early this AM. It's starting to get chilly overnight here. I certainly don't want to be putting the heat on just yet. I have not put a blanket on DS yet because a) I'm not 100% comfortable with it and b) I think DS would just kick it off anyway. I plan on talking to the pedi at out 15 month appointment this week. I think I will look into getting some of those feety sleep sacks though!

I do cover him with a blanket. He also cuddles one sometimes. I've put a blanket over him at night since January. His room is the coldest in the house.

DD has had one with her since birth.

Im sure it doesn't stay on her, but she sleeps curled up next to it, and always grabs in the morning when I get her. She uses it as a pillow sometimes...

This is Z too. She has a fleece blanket in her crib that she loves. She doesn't use it for warmth, just cuddles with it. She's got plenty of fleece sleepers, etc. to keep her nice and toasty in the winter.

DD wears a Halo Sleep Sack to bed and she also has a small soft blanket in her crib that she likes to snuggle with. She became really attached to it in the last month, so we started letting her have it in there. Right now, she has the regular sleep sacks and I haven't had any problems with them because she only wears them while in the crib. I did order some of the ones with the feet holes in micro-fleece for the winter, though.
