Pregnant after 35

First post here- A little concerned after today's appointment

Hi ladies,

This is my first post on this board and I also posted this on my BMB but anyway I had an appointment today and we find out we are team blue (YAY).  So all the measurements and everything looked great however the doctor showed us a spot on the u/s and mentioned its caused by increased blood flow to the brain which could be a sign of a chromosone abnormality. He said its not much to worry about and it typically clears up after 20 weeks so we are hoping it clears up by my next appointment. He called it a soft marker and mentioned that in 100 babies, 1 turns out to have some sort of complication. He also told me the 1 percent could be based just on my age (i'm 35). Those odds are great but I cant help but be slightly concerned. We also had the NT scan done and those results came out fine so honestly I'm not sure what to make of this. Does anyone have any experience with this. To be honest my mind was going a mile a minute upon hearing this so I am not 100 percent sure what the heck the doctor really said.

  • The tech had seen some abnormality earlier on in mine, but that must have gone away, since nothing else has been mentioned since, and my last scan (last week) had been perfectly fine. It's best not to stress about it. Especially when the u/s is just a picture and it's likely the NT scan was more accurate in this case.

  • Thank you ladies!  I really appreciate it
  • My best advice is that if you're confused, give your doc a call for clarity.  Don't waste time worrying yourself ill when you've got an all access pass to answers.  That's what your care team is there for, and they should be encouraging you to reach out whenever you need to.

  • I have heard that this is not uncommon.  I agree with PP's that said to give your DR a call.  That should put your mind at ease.

Good luck to you! FX that it's nothing at all to worry about.

  • We had a soft marker as well (bright spot in LO's heart) and everything turned out perfectly fine, no abnormalities. With a fine NT scan, and the 20 week scan coming up, I wouldn't worry about it. We did end up doing an amnio much later on, which went just fine, so that's always an option.
