Accidentally hurting LOs feelings

Have you guys ever done this? I'm wondering if I have a sensitive feelings baby. Tonight we were sitting together looking at each other's faces and smiling and she was making sounds at me and suddenly I saw the hugest tidal wave of spit up coming up and without thinking I said, "No!!" loudly and her face just crumpled and she made the saddest cry. But then I started rubbing her back and saying I was sorry in a loving voice and she immediately recovered and started smiling again.

And a few weeks ago we were sitting together and talking and I started to tell her something in a serious voice not remembering she didn't know my words were joking even if my voice was serious and suddenly her lower lip stuck out and she burst into tears. It's crazy how we have this emotional connection and sometimes I don't appreciate it thinking she's just a baby.

  • Aww!   All my guys really do is smile and laugh when I talk to them.  Even when I am trying to be serious like... and tell them something is not funny, they just laugh more.

  • My LO does something similar but in a funnier context. DH has "insulted" her twice. Once he called her a fat baby, and once said she had a big head. Both times, her timing was amazing! She froze with big eyes, quivered her lower lip, and BURST into tears! Total coincidence obviously, but DH is now traumatized, thinking she can understand him since both time he said it joking in a happy tone. It's so hilarious! She's going to have him wrapped around her finger so hard.

  • I've accidentally hurt her feelings a few times, and if she's in a particularly bad mood (which is pretty much always), certain voices I talk to her in will upset her. Mostly the high pitched voices.

  • haha yeah my son is sensitive to weird noises/voices...the other week I was playing with him and a made a noise like rolling my tounge (like a cat sound, I know kind of weird) and he totally freaked out like super wide eyes and then started hysterically crying....then I was changing his diaper and blew on his tummy and he lost it again with that one! haha..so we avoid all weird noises

  • this has not happened with me, but DH said some made up babbles to DS once and he went from happy and smiley to an OMGWHATDIDYOUJUSTSAYTOME? Face and started bawling.

  • DD has been babbling into the mirror all happy... then her face changed and she got into a "fight" with the person in the mirror... too funny!

  • Occassionally I have hurt LOs feeling and he does the pouty I'm about to cry face or just starts crying until I tell him I'm sorry.  There are other times I'm purposely being stern with him, serious face and all and he just starts laughing.  I don't think you have a sensitive feeling baby, it was probably just a shock and/or bad timing.
