Anyone get a rash with Lupron?

It's so weird. Tonight was my 5th night of Lupron shots. I gave myself a shot and it stung a little, but when I took the needle out it started to itch a little and bleed. I dabbed it with a napkin and now there is a little red rash around the puncture site. It doesn't hurt and isn't itchy. Has anyone had anything like this happen??

Re: Anyone get a rash with Lupron?

  • It didn't happen to me, but I only used Lupron as a trigger, so just did one injection of it. I did get a welt around it, but it wasn't itchy or bleeding. I have heard of what you described though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

You can put some ice on it and wipe it with an alcohol swab to make the swelling go down. My RE said that it would be okay to put some itch relief cream on your injection sites if they get itchy. Make sure it's okay with your doctor first.

Hope it gets better for you soon!

  • Thank you! A small welt was exactly what happened. Thanks so much for making me feel better
  • No problem :0)

Keep an eye on it, but I'm sure it'll go away soon.  Just pick a different place from that spot for the next injection so you can make sure you can monitor the different injection areas to see if they get worse.

  • They warned me about this, but I didn't experience it.  You may want to call your nurse on Monday just to let them know.  Keep some Benadryl on hand, just in case, and sounds like PP gave you some other good suggestions.

  • My nurse warned me about this too.  She said that she had heard that it's actually the medium that the Lupron is disolved in that people sometimes react with, not the Lupron itself. (Hopefully that makes sense).  My shot site itched for the first few minutes almost everytime.  I also reacted a few times with a little red rash after the itching stopped.  Hopefully your itchiness and rash subside!
