Sophie - worth the $$?

Those of you who have a Sophie teether for LO - is it worth it?  DS has a bath toy that has a similar consistency (I think) and he's always chewing on it.  I'm debating going ahead and getting Sophie for him, but before I get one, I wanted to know if it's worth the money.  $20 is a lot to spend on one teether!  Also, does anyone have the Sophie teething ring, rather than the regular giraffe?  What do you think of that?

Also, do these kinds of teething rings continue to be useful once the first couple of teeth cut through?  I'm assuming they will be since DS will continue to cut teeth, but since he doesn't have any yet, I don't know for sure.

Oooohhhh! I love this question. I was wondering the same thing. LO seems content with his current teething toys but have heard great things about sophie. To be honest and this is silly I will have to rename the giraffe for DH! He's so manly minded and thinks P should be too! Uuugghh! Lol!

  • We have the Sophie teething ring that I got as a gift at the shower.  I liked it when DD was around 3 months because it was easy for her to hold, but she couldn't really get it in her mouth and it frustrated her.  Now that she is 6 months, she can easily hold it and get it in her mouth.  She doesn't really favour it over her other toys to chew on, but when I give it to her she chews happily.  Overall I like it, but I didn't buy it and I am not sure how much it is.  I don't know about the regular Sophie, but I don't think my DD would like it because she prefers smaller toys that are easy to grab.

For us, no. DS is afraid of Sophie (she squeaks-like a dog toy). Don't know about the one with handles...

I just bought a three pack of rubber duckies...DS loves to chew on their heads.

Maybe I'll do this instead.. a much less expensive gamble!  DS has a rubbery turtle bath toy that he loves to chew on, so that's why I was thinking about getting Sophie.  But maybe I'll just get a couple more of the bath toys!

  • The good thing about Sophie is that she's easy to hold. I bought a bunch of other teething rings and my son has a hard time holding them- they all seem really big and awkward. The bad thing is that you really have to keep an eye on them with her- my son occasionally likes to ram her leg down his throat and gag himself. It doesn't seem to really bother him really but it makes quite a mess!

  • DD loves chewing on Sophie, but the only other teether we have is a frozen one which is awkward for her to hold so I can't really says she "prefers" Sophie. We have the regular Sophie. We do get a lot of use out of it.

LOL Jessica...our friends call Sophie "George" because they have a boy.
  • We ended up with the regular Sophie and the plush Sophie. DD loves both of them, but she preferred the plush one when her teeth were actually coming in. Overall, I'm happy with Sophie!

  • We have both Sophie and Sophie teething ring. She likes them both because they are easier to handle than a lot of her other teethers. I like to take the ring when we are out and about because I can hook it to her paci leash and it doesn't fall on the floor when she drops it.

Thanks!! I feel better now! I thought my DH was the only one with a man on baby complex!!
  • Loves her Sophie (The Soph-ster!). Chews on every angle of her. One of the few toys she knows the name of. Worth every penny for our girl.
  • We asked the grandparents to buy it. So I didn't shell out the 20bucks. He loves it, chews on the face and feet. No teeth yet so I can't speak for that. I think it will be around for a while.

  • Worth every penny! By far his favorite toy and chews every part. No teeth here either so don't know about post teething. I even heard my hubby ranting about it to one of his friends the other day. LOL If the hubby is talking about it you know its good!!!
