Family reunions

So my Mom has decided to put together a family reunion for her mom's side of the family WITH her dad's side of the family. Both her parents are deceased so the only people that tie these two families together won't even be there.
Am I the only one that finds this odd?

    I did. She disagreed and said it would be better to do it together that way the families could see each other. They barely know each other!!

    Oh and get this she's planning to have the reunion November 3. 2012. Barely a month away and I'm the only person she's told so far
