G was born at one of the large local hospitals. We also went to a clinic attached to the hospital for the last couple of weeks of prenatal care.
After G was born we got numerous bills from both the hospital and clinic which we paid through our CU bill pay. The hospital/clinic screwed nearly all of them up. Money to go to the clinic went to the hospital, etc. It took MONTHS to sort out. Total nightmare.
Fast forward to July. G had feeding therapy at the Child Rehabilitation Program at this same hospital. We started getting bills and as per usual I paid them through bill pay. However, the same bills kept coming. I called the billing office and gave them the check numbers, verified I had sent to the right address, etc. They said they would check into it. Another month went by.
Two days ago I noticed that we got the same bills again. Except this time they were threatening to send us to collections. Cue my bp rising dangerously. I call them back and spoke to the lovely (not) Jennifer. After several back and forth calls she INSISTED (like cross her heart and hope to die) that the checks MUST have been lost in the mail. I nicely pointed out that they had been sent on different days so it would be weird for them all to be lost. I said that more than likely they had just gone to the wrong department again. Keep in mind that we dealt with this for months last year. But, no. According to her if the checks had gotten there and gone to the wrong department they would have been cashed and could be tracked. There was absolutely NO WAY the checks could have gotten within a mile of the hospital. So, I called my CU and put a stop on the checks. Then I called her back and paid with a debit card.
This morning while I was at the gym I got a message from dear dear Jennifer telling me she had some information for me. I thought, hmmm, I wonder if she found the checks. So, guess what? Yes, she had received the checks in a pile with a bunch of other "missing" checks. I thanked her, but she wasn't done. She "kindly" informed me that next time I paid a bill to the hospital that I should make sure and send it to the address that was on the bill. At which point my head exploded. I told her I had addressed the checks to the address on the bill. She told me I couldn't have. I told her I had verified the address at least 4 or 5 times by today. She continued to insist that I couldn't have because the checks went to a different part of the campus. And, she added that memo on the check said child day surgery (or something) so that's how she knew I sent it to the wrong place. Again, my head exploded. I wanted to say listen you idiot. The memo says "child rehabilitation center" because THAT'S WHERE THE BILL WAS FROM. And then it had the correct account number next to it. OMG! Not to mention that who cares what the memo says. It had nothing to do with what was on the envelope and where the checks were mailed to.
Not only that but excuse me but your credibility is a little damaged since two days ago you insisted that the checks couldn't possibly have been mailed to the hospital and must have been lost by the post office.
HOLY CRAP!
She never would admit it and at that point I just decided she was too stupid and I was too adult to pursue this conversation further.
Re: I'm so riled up right now (nbr just me ranting) LONG
I have to admit I'm laughing at it now because OMG...she was an idiot.

I feel you're pain!
I got a bill in the mail one day for like $500 bucks. I called and asked what it was for they told me for the abortion I had. Abortion? I didn't have a f-ing abortion, I m/c'd a baby. Oh but you had surgery. No, I never had any kind of surgery.
It stung!
oh, my goodness. That's truly terrible. I'm sorry.
See, that's the kind of thing that sends me right off the deep end. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Jennifer sounds like a Darwin awards nominee.
I just got a bill the other day for $1400 from my bloodwork they did at my first visit with this pregnancy. Um, what? I haven't even called yet because these things stress me out so much.
Wow, Jennifer sounds like a peach! And coming from a person here who has to handle checks daily, that's pretty bad to hold them that long!
Chicago - the same thing happened to me with C. Apparently my OB forgot to mark my paperwork as pre-natal so I was just being charged as regular bloodwork which was going against my deductible, oy!

REALLY? I hope this is what happened. I certainly wasn't looking to pay $1400 for a blood panel. Thanks for the tip; I'll definitely make sure it's marked as prenatal when I call!
Yep, and I only figured it out b/c my insurance how a cap on the amount of allowable bloodwork. I needed a bunch b/c of a prior m/c and I topped out after like my second appt!
Ughhhh! That is awful.
Why is hospital billing always so f'ed up. We have been seeing a specialist at the children's hospital for a while, and every single time we have a visit, we have to call at least two different departments to pay two different bills. (When DS had an ER visit, I think we had like 5 different bills). The last time DH called, he ended up talking to a manager because there's no way to find out if your whole balance is paid without being transferred around to different departments. It is so confusing to manage. Thank god we have the means to pay .... it shouldn't be that hard to give them the money, ya know?
