So for all of you mommies who are planning on having more kids and therefore saving toys, etc.... how are you storing them? We're putting everything in the basement (though I suppose we could use the attic as well) and obviously are putting clothes in bins, etc. We bought a huge new toy chest and decided that it was time to take down his jumperoo (I cried lol) and put the chest up in it's place.... so we threw the jumperoo and his bouncer in that big box. I don't want to take everything apart because I'm afraid we won't be able to put things back together properly. I guess I could take off cloth covers and put them all in a bag together... but I'm afraid of things getting lost.... etc. Anyways, now I'm rambling. So what are you doing? TIA
Re: Storing old toys...
my read shelf:
We have no extra room in our house so everything has been going in the attic. I really hate storing big things that can't go in containers up in the attic so we currently have an air conditioned storage unit that we are using.
Oh I just did this yesterday, and I cried too! Haha I'm such a softie... you should see me every single time I pack away DD's out-grown clothes.
We have a storage unit that's accessible via our deck. We just got her convertible car seat so I had a massive box from that which I used for her out-grown activity things. I have amazing, jigsaw-like packing skills. I managed to fit the jumperoo (I broke ours down to 7 pieces), bouncer, tummy mat/activity center, bumbo & tray, and her light up tummy time toy bar oh and a few dds and ends like body supports/strap protectors/carriers etc. The toy bar had a few screws on the feet (I took those off to fit it better) I just used a sharpie to label the feet left and right and put the screws into a labeled bag and tossed it all in. I also bagged up the covers for the jumper, bouncer and also the mat part of her tummy time center. I have one of those expandable file folders that I keep every. single. instruction manual we get into... so I don't have any worries about figuring out all the gear again when it's time. I keep boxes for these exact purposes so I'll box up the swing in it's original one in probably a week or two. As for the bassinet, I just disassembled it and wrapped it in trash bags.
Clothes go in individual bins based on size, get labeled and they are stacked in one of her two closets. Come Christmas time I'll pack up all her baby toys and probably throw those into storage too, and I'm also thinking about using those vacuum flat storage bags for her clothes and blankets to save more room once we have another because we'll need that second closet.
I'm a bit of a pack rat, so we're saving everything (Most everything, that would be out-grown in the first year, I bought gender neutral to use again) except the travel system, which is fine by me because if I had known how useless that stroller would have been I would have forgone it altogether and purchased an infant seat and a snap-and-go frame instead. Now I know for the next one!
Clothing is stored by size in large plastic bins and are stacked inside of his closet currently waiting to see if we have anymore boys. However, I do go through all of the clothes first and if they are stained they get tossed and if they were never used or not something I really like, they get donated.
For toys, we disassembled the swing, exersaucer, jumpers, bouncers, and activity mats and labeled any screws in baggies. I then taped the baggies to the leg of whatever toy is belonged to and tossed it in the box that the new convertible car seat came in. I'm selling the stroller part of our travel system so I don't have to store it. As far as smaller toys like teethers, soft texture items, they are still in his play box downstairs. He still likes to play with them sometimes. Eventually they will go in a plastic tub and probably stored as well in the closet.
