Popping in From Dec/12... Hot Slings?

Hi all, I'm expecting a little boy in December, and I'm pretty new to baby-wearing. I had a carrier for DS when he was a baby, but I found it hard on my back and I'm really interested in slings/wraps this time around so I can use one right away.

I found someone selling a barely used Hot Slings wrap for $20. She says her reason for selling is she has a lot of different style carriers, and her new baby just isn't into this one.  I looked them up online and found mainly good reviews, but I was wondering if anyone here had ever used one that could give me their opinion and tell me if it's worth it.

Thanks in advance!

  • Pouch carriers are the hardest to get right. You have to have just the perfect size for your body to get a good fit. Even though the HS has two adustments, that isn't anything spectacular.  For $20, I'd get a used Moby instead.

  • I pretty much agree with PP.  I have a Hot Sling, which I used for DS.  I have yet to break it our for DD, though.  I much prefer one of my ring slings for adjustability and overall comfort.  I have two Sleeping Baby Productions rings slings and love them both.

The Hot Sling isn't a bad choice, though.  I found it to be well made and works just fine for what it is.  By their very nature, pouch slings just aren't as adjustable or versatile as other types of carriers.

I'd put the money toward a ring sling or woven wrap.

  • Thank you! I'm having a hard time finding ring slings even full price, but I will keep my eyes open. Same with the Moby, I haven't been able to find it anywhere around here.

The only wrap I've been able to find is a Maman Kangarou. How are those?

  • It's pretty similar to the moby.  Where are you located?  There are lots of online vendors for all types of carriers as well as online places to buy used if you'd rather go that route - I have some listed in my siggy.  I'd echo what the pp have said about the hotslings - nice pouch but pouches aren't my favorite for a newborn because there's no adjustability (or rather it's limited).
  • I have to agree with everyone else, I do not like those slings! They are really hard to get right, have to be a specific size to fit, etc. etc.

I used a Maya ring sling (from Amazon) with DS2 that I liked a lot more, but mainly used a Beco Butterfly with both my kids.

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

This! I had a hotslings when DS was a baby and I only used it a few times. I didn't like it at all. With DD, I bought a Boba wrap and absolutely love it! I wear it all the time. Even though I prefer wraps, I've been thinking about getting a Boba air because it looks so comfy! https://store.bobafamily.com/boba-air/
