I need to whine... Yes, I would like some cheese with it ![]()
I went for my 3 day testing on the 8th of Sept. The results came in 5 days later (last Thursday, the 13th). I finally called my Drs office on Monday (the 17th) to talk with him about the results (I had a copy of the numbers/results). He never called me back. I called again today, Friday, & asked if he could please call me, that I am waiting 5 days already since my last message. She said you have to come into the office to sit w/ the dr - face to face. I told her, I was just in there 2 weeks before my blood work - face to face to discuss my options, etc, why do I have to come back in?? She said, that is the way he does it. So I have an appt on Monday evening to meet with him... Watch, I will sit in the waiting room for a hour just to talk with him for 5 mins... I will be really annoyed. I am trying to get DH to come along this time.
Come on, this sounds like it is all about the money....
My numbers are good - with the exception of TSH - which is a 3.67 (I am on the high side of the normal range, and a few ladies who see REs told me that it needs to be around 2). So if I am going in for him to just tell me that everything is normal, I am going to really ***...
My last appt with him went horribly - he asked me what we were doing to help along the TTC process & I told him charting, OPKs, vitamins - and he then says - your 42, you should consider IVF. I told him right off the bat that we don't want to go that route, that if it does not happen naturally, we are not interested. He still tried pushing it. Mind you he didn't have any blood work, never did an U/S or check me out thoroughly at this point. I left that office thinking "I need a new OBGYN".
Now this... Im sorry, but WTF?
Anyone on here from NJ that can recommend a RE? The RE could be anywhere from Union County to Ocean County (I work up north & live down south). I think the RE would want to treat my thyroid level & listen to our desire to do this naturally - no IVF, no IUI. My DH is against IUI, I am not, but he is dead set on doing this w/o any intervention. My OBGYN is driving me crazy.
Thanks for listening to me whine...
Re: Annoyed with OBGYN
Wow-- that is a lot of (justified) stress! Your OB/GYN is not helping you in any way, shape, or form. I think it's time for a new doc... but that's just me. I don't suffer fools gladly (who does?).
Also, if nobody here is from the NJ area, I'll ask my friend who lives in East Brunswick (works at Rutgers) who she used when she did IVF. She is single and wanted to have a baby before it was too late for her (she's 40). She now has a beautiful baby boy who is almost as big as she is!
Lastly, your DH may need to do some reading up on TTC > 35. We've had some men here who just don't understand how TTC works for young'uns, let alone for us more seasoned women. Once they have their eyes opened, they tend to be more open to discussing ALL their options. Even if it doesn't change his mind, it may help you both come to a mutually-agreeable place when deciding what options you want to pursue...
Good luck! I think your Ob/Gyn is a canoeful of douche and needs to get kicked to the curb...

I don't know how unusual it is for your doctor to want to sit down and discuss results with you in person. I know that when my husband was seeing someone for male IF issues, he had to go in for a face-to-face meeting with the doctor after his tests. I was freaking out in the interim because I was worried it was terrible news. Turns out, it was just office procedure.
I don't have any advice on an NJ RE, but I do wonder how helpful an RE will be if you and your husband want to conceive naturally and are against intervention. That isn't to say that you might not change your mind (or your husband's mind) after talking with the RE, just that an RE doesn't have a lot of natural remedies in his/her bag of tricks.
I admittedly know nothing of thyroid issues, so I could be wrong. The other ladies can weigh in with their thoughts.
I'd be really irritated with the delayed phone calls: even if he wanted to see you face-to-face, shouldn't the office have called once the results were in to set that appointment up?
I am not from NJ, so no RE suggestions, but that seems the way to go. Best of luck!
AMA & SAIF. TTC #1 since Oct. 2010. DX: Unexplained. BFP on break after 32 months trying and 2 med cycles. Baby girl born at 40w0d!

I started TTC at 41; my GYN sent me straight to an RE due to my numbers (FSH-11.3, AMH- 0.16).
I've seen two RE's- the first wanted us to go straight to IVF; the second was a little less aggressive and we did do one cycle of TI (with femara) before moving onto IUI and injectibles. He is very patient, but I did get the feeling he quickly wanted to move on (given my age and numbers) to intervention.
My TSH hovers around 3.5 (it was 3.2 earlier in the month), and neither RE or my GP would treat me for it. I also had several other thyroid related tests and they all came back normal. When I pushed treatment with my RE- he referred me to a medical endocrinologist. I'm waiting for that appointment next month.

Oh QZees that is horrible and I just went through that last year. I switched my Docctor to Dr. Giovine, he has offices in Lakewood, colts neck & Little Silver. I haven't physically seen him since last October, we do most of the consulting via phone...and i have talked to him as late as 10pm - cause that is how he rolls
He recommended Dr. Damien at www.eastcoastivf.com they have offices in Little Silver, Brick Freehold and Jersey City....SO my appt at Dr. damien is Nov 5th, so I have not met them yet.
I hope this helps I had a horrible experience at my OBGYN, so I switched based on a friend who is 42, and trying to get pregnant for several years, she went looking for an OB that would listen to her and work with her...she isn't interested in IVF. She found Dr. Giovine and recommended him to me....The office is nice and pretty efficient so far too...

Sorry, that is really frustrating to deal with. I agree with PP's, it may be time to find a new OB and/or RE. The first things they should be doing is not only bloodwork but making sure your uterus is in good shape, your tubes are open, etc. Before you just jump right to IVF! Agree also that you and your DH may need to be more open to interventions, BUT that being said, a good RE should be willing to work with you and try a few cycles medicated, then potentially IUI, and IVF only if all else fails.
Good luck with it all!
