Winter weather apparel

Hi may moms!  Question about winter weather apparel from a FTM...

I live in Minnesota... It's getting cold.  What do I need for winter?  One of those all encompassing fluffy snow suits?  I know that she can't wear this in the car seat, and it seems like such a hassle to put on and take off... eVERY TIME.  Are our babies too old for one of those car seat zip up things?  I'm assuming they are too little for just a jacket.......

So tell me experienced mothers, what are your winter solutions?

Edit: also, if the snow suit / car seat cover thing is a must, where to find cute ones? ( something other than the pink fluffy bunny suit)

  • Someone gave us a bundleme for the carseat, but we are going to return it bc she hates the car seat and get the stroller cover instead.  Might be something to look into? It's got really good reviews and it's popular. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use the car seat cover when you're driving; it's just for transport when you carry the baby in the seat.

Someone also gave us a snow suit but I can't imagine we're going to be using it...It seems weird, especially because she was born at the end of May.  I also think it seems like a giant hassle, getting pants and a jacket on and off of her!

I've also seen things like this that I was considering..I thought maybe they could be used for in between weather, when it's cold, and then paired with a bundleme when it's reallllly cold..

Gap baby is freaking expensive though, so I think I'd try to find something elsewhere.  I wonder if you can use these one-pieces with the car seat..?

  • We use a jj cole bundle me. I used it with the first and will use it again this time. They are super warm. He loved it. They are tested and meet safety requirements, so you can use it in the car.
  • This is my third and i think It really depends on what you will be doing this winter. We play outside a lot so we need a snowsuit, I also have a car seat cover that is meant to be left on all the time which I loved with my middle child it's perfect for shopping and going to and from places. We also have just a jacket for being outside for short outings or for fall and early spring. If you plan on spending a lot of time outside its important to have different options if you won't be taking lo out to play the car seat cover would be plenty.

  • Question: what do they wear under the bundle me? Normal clothes? Also, it zips up completely, but how far up do you zip it?
I have a warm gap jacket for the winter. When will I get to use it?

You made me want one of those... Do you think because it is fleece and not a bulky bunting that it would be okay in the seat??? Baby Gap is adorable. I've found stuff on Ebay -- Also, Old Navy may have a slightly less expensive solution.

Yes normal cloths under it, ours is a different brand that zips to chest hight then has a flap to cover the face for outside. But normally moms zip them to chest hight.
Like I said jackets are more for when your going outside when you aren't playing in the snow. Go with your instincts when dressing lo and you'll be fine.

  • I asked on the baby gear board and they said a fleece jacker is fine in the carseat.  We have a full waterproof snow suit for home and daycare and also a fuzzy full body suit for the stroller this fall.  I got the snowsuit at the end of the season last spring and picked up the fuzzy outfits for a couple bucks at a consignment sale. She is ina conbertable in my car so we can't do a covee.
