Appliance Warranty Plans

Does anyone have one of these plans, the kind that covers all your appliances/furnace in the home?  Do you think it's worth it?  Have you ever had to use the plan?  If so, were they good about fixing/replacing the item?

Re: Appliance Warranty Plans

  • Yes - I purchased them up front to kick in once the manufacturers warranty ran out.   The price of the appliances was so much that the smallish cost for the extended warranty seemed worth it.  And it was!  My washing machine was acting up and I called for a repair and it was something with the computer portion of it (it was a machine with a digital readout).  They ended up determining that the cost of the part and service wasn't worth it and they gave me $ towards a new machine - I negotiated with them a bit and it ended up covering the cost entirely.

Also had 2 service calls on my dishwasher - those alone (including parts) would have made it worth it.

  • I had one at my old house that covered all my appliances and my heat and a/c.  It came in handy when my a/c completely broke and had to be replaced.  Unfortunately, the warranty made the company replace part by part to see if that would work until they finally figured out they had to replace the entire unit.  It was August in Las Vegas and the whole process took 3 weeks, so it was pretty terrible.  My house was 2 levels and had two units so we had some air, but both of them were down at one point for a few days.  Not fun when it is 110 outside.

This is what I worry about with the furnace in the winter.  Although our furnace is less that one year old.  I'm mainly interested in this for the laundry and kitchen appliances.  I think I'd be fine going a couple of days without those.
