So I meant for my mom to French braid my hair for labor last time, but it didn't happen. I had a crazy rats nest to comb through after labor. My hair is on the shorter side this time, but I think a French braid or pig tail braids are still doable. I want something that will keep my hair tidy for a couple of days, despite my tossing and turning, and that won't be uncomrtable to sleep in.
What are you planning to do with your hair for labor?
Re: Hair and labor
I've thought about this in passing as well... Would like to see what others do.
I don't think a pony tail would work because I would be comfortable on my back with my head against a pillow. I also don't want it hanging down... The french braid/pigtails are are good idea but I would need someone else to do it for me.
The first time I thought I'd be all cute for post-delivery pics and leave it down. I showered before we left for the hospital and did my hair. Ha.ha.ha.ha.ha. I ended up with it in a messy bun AFTER it had already turned into a rat's nest. My sister pulled it back for me at some point several hours into my labor experience. It then stayed in that rat's nest/bun until the day we went home and it was the hugest mess ever to comb through.
This time I'll just plan on pulling it up right from the beginning and all should be well.

I thought this post was going to be about pubic hair lol. I am trying to muster up the courage to go get waxed as a pregnant chick regularly before the baby comes. I don't know if I will ever reach that confidence level though. I don't know why, I have gotten waxed before.
Anyways, I think I am going to do a big messy soccer bun on the top of my head with a headband to hold back any stragglers. I plan on attempting to shower right before we go to the hospital so if I put my hair up wet, it will probably be clean by the time I finally take it out. Then I will just use a leave in conditioner.
Granted nothing goes as planned, and I've never done this before so it is probably wishful thinking.
3 IUIs to get BFP w/baby #2
Lost baby #2 at nearly 12 weeks (D&C on 9/19/14)
I would have to look back at my birth pics to see what was happening with my hair! Im sure I probably threw it up into a messy bun as I always do. And prob will again. But if im lying down maybe it was/will be down (hate lying with the lump there).
What did you gals do in labor that your hair got into such a state?!? haha

Same here, my plan is to take a shower then put some gel in it & french braid it while it's still wet. That usually holds up pretty well for me, but I'll also take a headband in case any flyaways pop out.

Dear Baby Pacheco...
I went into the hospital late Saturday night for pre-e, took a shower Sunday, and I'm not sure I touched my hair after that. I was induced on Monday, and Monday night or Tuesday morning I took a shower and dealt with my hair. I only labored 7 hours, but I had a lot more time in bed than that, and all the tossing and turning against the pillow did a number on my hair!

I got waxed during first trimester and OH MY GOSH.... It hurts SO much worse while pregnant!!!!
I have long hair, so I'm thinking a low ponytail that holds all my hair back (I've let my tailored 'bangs' or front pieces grow out).
My thought is if I can keep it in a low ponytail, I can take it down for decent looking pictures afterwards. If it doesn't stay or is bothering me, I'll just put it in a high messy bun with a headband - gym style.
With Ds, I *knew* I was going into labor, so I shaved my legs, washed, blow dried, and straightened my hair and did my make up. I wore it down during labor and the first pic I have of me holding Ds I have a huge smile on my face but my hair looks like I just ran through a car wash. Eeeek!
I'm planning a water birth with this one, so I'm just going to put it up in a bun from the get go
DO IT!
I was always a shaver up until just before my wedding. I decided to give waxing a try and I'll never go back. I loved the time it saved me then. Now that I'm pregnant, it's become even more convenient. I've reached the point where it literally hurts if I try to bend over too much (like I would when shaving), that I physically couldn't do it even if I wanted to now. DH and I aren't as sexually active since becoming pregnant (we've totally tuned into the once a week couple!) and even when it completely stops near the end, I'll still continue getting waxed. I do not like to be all bushy and gross. I don't want all that hair when I'm delivering either.
Is it painful? Yeah, each little strip is painful for about 1.5 seconds, but it's all over in less than 5 minutes. Definitely worth it if you ask me!
I'd also recommend European Wax Centers. They have a special wax, I love all of their products, and their service. They're all over the country I believe.
Anyway, as for the hair on my head. NO clue what I'll do with it. I'll likely go in with my hair down (that's how it usually is) and once things start getting a little more intense, I'll toss it into a messy bun.

With my son I had SUPER STYLISH bun type thing on the top of my head that my mom managed to pull together in between my screams because I dilated from 4-10 cm in under an hour and started pushing! She managed to find a headband to keep my hair out of my face too
Hopefully I'll have enough time to do something else a little cuter than this so I don't feel so ridiculous this time around, but it did do the trick!
This. I will definitely be worried about other things!
